13 posts · Joined 2023 I was changing out my thermostat and the screw to the left isn’t screwing back in for some reason? I didn’t want to strip the holes as they connect to my water pump. The other one is fine and can screw in properly but this one isn’t for some reason. I had screwed it in at a weird angle at first but then stopped once I realized it wasn’t going in easily. Any tips or ideas would be great thanks

Looks like the first 5 or 6 threads are galled from going in crooked.
Might be able to chase it with a tap.
Clean it out with a pick first, the grey clumps almost look like rtv sealant.

Use the other bolt to get the correct tap size. Work slow, aluminum is soft.
Canned air to blow out the shavings.
