Yeah, back then, no one really cared about anything but how big the magnet was. For amps, everything was based on how much it weighed. I can remember a couple brands that actually put lead bars inside to make them heavier.

Remember the big ass Pyle Bass by nines? For the rest of you, they had a 6x9 that had such a huge magnet, it barely fit through the mounting hole.

I remember that. I think that was just as pyle was going out. Funny part (now, anyway) was that there was a guy in the Oldsmar Flea Market who had 'pyle knockoffs'. Looked just like the real deal, but lacked the PYLE logo on the dustcap. These were a step up from his normal pyramid...you know, the one's with the clear cones, so you could see how off center the voice coil was.

Then he got a truckload, or seven, of real pyle. You could barely get within 20 feet of his booth, there was such a mob. Hell, he had 12", 40 oz magnet subs with paper cones and foam surrounds, good for about 150 watts max for only like $75 each!!

Worse...got gobbled up by Directed. They still put the Orion name on stuff, but I haven't heard good things about it.
