For those of you who enjoy install horror stories or are just bored, read on.
I just did this kids 01 Boneville with Bose premium system. It has four 5 1/4" mids, front tweeters and rear 6x9s putting out bass.
For those of you who aren't familiar, the Bonnevvile has the battery under the rear passenger seats along with the fuse box. This is super easy to install normally, however I ran into two problems.
First, since he wanted to keep his stock deck, he needed a high level input but had lost the cable for his amps high input. But since he had heard such good things about me through word of mouth he told me it was cool to take it apart and directly solder the speaker leads to the board. Problem solved.
Second problem - HORRIBLE corrosion!!!! it was so bad, the battery acid has eaten a hole through the floor the size of a fist. He had taken plastic bags and covered the hole up with the acid slowly continuing its journy through total steel consumption. I introduced him to fiberglass resin and repaired the hole and charged him $20 extra just for throwing two pieces of old shirt on the hole, coating, and blow drying it.
The terminals were also totally destroyed, I had no idea how the car could crank with such badly corroded terminals. I replaced those and while I was at it I crimped the amplifier pos & neg leads into the terminals. It looks so much better than gay little crimp rings hanging off the side.
I tapped the amp remote on from the RAP power relay on the BACK side of the fuse box...
Ricers please tune in for special announcement: You can tap wires on the back side of the fuse box.
Luckily the rear 6x9s are 100% bass with the bose noise compensation so tapping them turned the bose system into an ultra bose system with the best of both worlds. really clean mids and chest throbing bass.
Two type-Es on a MRP-M350 at 350wRMS 2ohms...
He paid a total of $75 for labor and $30 for the terminals and resin to repair the hole.
Thats my horror story for the day.
