Default Ok, now I've got a problem...

Last monday/tuesday I built a new enclosure for my 12a, and amp rack for my 300/4 500/1. All well and good. Sounded good for the last week.

This morning I was listening a little loud, nothing over the ususal, and I get up to a stop light, and I go to turn it down. In the process of turning it down, all the sound cuts out. Hmm.. Okay, I've been down this road before. Maybe It's an overheated amp (not likley for the duration I had been listening) so I turn the HU off. Let it sit for a little but, no dice.

SO now I'm riding aruond with no sound. Wait! I've got my rears hooked up to teh HU, but I keep it faded forward 24/7. So I fade it back to my rears, and lo and behold, no sound

Since this was on the way in I didnt get to check everything out as far as status LED's on the amps, but I'm thinking that since the rears, which are off of HU power, arent working either, the amps shouldnt make much of a difference.

Is my HU shitted? Fuse on the back of the HU? Everything "works" on the HU except any output, preamp or otherwise. Turns on, reads cd's, every button and knob works...

i would just replace all of your fuses just to be sure.

I had this problem once, but i had all my junk on amps though, and it turned out the fuse holder was cracked and i think loosely connected and right after i spent 20 bucks on a band new nice one, i accidentally fixed it, then replaced with a circuit breaker.... so yeah 10 bucks buys a brand new never used tusnami fuse holder ;P.

Good luck yo, im pretty sure you'll find the problem if you spend the time looking through theree.

LOGIC? You seriously want to invoke logic in a conversation about fake hijackings, missiles hitting the pentagon, and bombs planted throughout the world trade center? I thought it was a given that logic was checked at the door when entering one of these threads.

im gonna go with one of your RCAs hit ground and decided to take the internal amp with it. Disconnect and isolate hte RCA leads and see if your headunit amp starts working again. if it does then one of your amps is short circuted somewhere in the signal line.

i dont know how grounding out the rca connector will affect the headunit playing music through the rears. If it DID screw the internal amp up i would think it would stay dead instead of coming back to life after disconnecting?

the problem is isolated at the headunit. Do you have another headunit to test to see if this fixes the problem? im willing to bet your headunit took a dive

The RCA leads feed the internal amp just like they feed an external one. If you short circuit the external RCA lead, the internal signal is short circuited as well. That is why some headunits offer you the option to turn off the internal amp if you are using an external one. Even if it is not in use, the internal amplifier still feeds off the signal and can reduce the output voltage.

Sometimes it will stay dead, others removing the short will remedy it. Or course it is probably damaged but may still work.
