Anyone familiar with Nissan / Infiniti Stereos or Stereos In General ?
If so I have a technical question for you.
My Infiniti has the Bose stereo system in it, sounds pretty good but has one odd quirk my Lincoln did not have.
The car is equipped with a multi speaker system, one being a sub in the rear package shelf. It looks to be about 6-8 inches with a fairly good sized amp mounted next to it.
When I have any music with good bass in it the sub will automatically tone itself down as the volume goes up. Is there some way to bypass this ? If not what is controlling this ? The stereo, amp, speaker itself ?
I am looking to replace the sub that is in there with a better one but want to know what the source is for this cutting down of the power to the sub first.
Thanks

its called bass attenuation , a similar function to "LOUD" on aftermarket stereos, the high notes and low bass notes are increased at low volumes, and increased at higher volumes.
Its hardcoded into the bose headunit so theres really nothing you can do about it. The bose system is designed for clean sound throughout the volume spectrum and the bose sub will clip at higher volumes unless it is attentuated.
You could replace the headunit but the sub will probably clip once you reach the volume it currently slopes off at.
As for replacing the sub, the bose sub has a very high sensitivity and is usually an uncommon ohm load. if you use a load lower than it then it will burn the amp out. if its higher you will lose a lot of power and it will sound very poor.

so basically replace all or nothing
this will not eliminate the headunit's bass attenuation but with more power comes more thump.
It won't, but removing the rear sub and adding a nice sub/amo combo wil make it sound MUCH better.

ive heard the infinity bose combo and it takes more than just an average set of subs to beat that sq

I have come to find out it is royal PITA to change anything in this system. Every speaker has a pre-amp, every speaker runs on some odd ohm range, and the head unit is not something I am going to touch considering most of the settings for the rest of my car are controlled through the head unit.
the speakers are easy to change. tapping the preamp is also easy to do.
its the bass thats an issue.

When i buy a new car it'd be nice to opt for no stereo or anything installed.
if i ever buy a new car.
