Default 8" quarter wave (transmission line) box

I just built one for a Treo SSi 8. Well, the woofer isn't here yet, so I threw a simple Crossfire DB38 in it. On 300 ish watts (back half of Sundown 4x100) its whopping 8mm of xmax belted out 133db on music. This was with the box just sitting in the very back of the Escalade, no tuning, brand new woofer, very conservative gain setting. And it has a very nice, full, natural sound, as a Tline should.

I'm really looking forward to putting the SSi in there, with its 500w rms power handling, and 26mm of xmax.

I also got around to testing that big folded horn box I built. 2 10's on about 800 watts did 139.9 db. Again on music, in the back of the escalade, no tuning.

BTW do you have an o-scope Toby? I'm not bridging these until I can use one.

The transmission line? Simplest box you've ever designed.

Take speed of sound in air (I use 1130 fps) divided by Fs of woofer...that gives you wavelength. Now, divide by 4, giving you 1/4 wavelength. This is how long the Tline has to be. In my case, it was 8.8'.

Now, take the Sd of the woofer. This is the area of the Tline. I used 37.5 sq in.

That's it. Imagine the woofer in one end of a 5 sided 'port' 37.5 inches in cross section and 8.8 feet long. That is a 1/4 wave box for an 8" woofer with an fs of 32hz.

Now, the fun part is folding that up to fit in the car. My enclosure ended up being 31.5 long x 9 wide x 18 tall...not exactly compact, especially for an 8. The box sits on one side of the cargo area, and both the 8 and the other end of the line fire up.

I didn't get any pics before my wife drove off with it. I'll take a couple tomorrow.

No, no scope. Just curious...why do you need a scope to bridge the amp?

Don't NEED it. But I have to be very careful putting that much power to those speakers.
