Where do you think the RCAs are grounded to? The entire essence of shielded RCAs is a common ground.

Take a look at any diagram of a preamp output source. The one thing you will always find is the common immediately drawn to ground. That means that the only time running a bare copper wire from ground to the shields would solve a noise problem would be on a defective headunit or a headunit with a poor chassis to ground connection.

The common ground for the radio is the ground wire that runs to ground from the harness.
If anything you should route the harness ground to the chassis at a sanded spot with a stainless steel screw.

Proper wiring in the first place > that ugly picture ^
Come on now Dalton, you know enough to know this is true. The ground breaks internally on the HU and grounding this works. I have done it many times, it is not a wiring issue, it is a internal issue.

Never seen a PCB board break a solder joint to the outer shield. I would be interested in seeing the dc resistance between the shield and the true ground on one of the headunits that this fixed.

Ive done that fix many many times.... it only seems to happen to pioneer head units...

Sometimes you can hear the internal noises from the cd player through the RCAs also...

click click..... bump bump...... scratchy scratchy...

I Hate pioneer radios for that ive dubbed them DJ pioneer.... they also always like to mix up the music for you to.

Love em or hate em, one out of every three stereos in vehicles in the USA is a Pioneer. BUT, I do so much hate the RCA problem. As a matter of fact, I just did all of our defective returns today for the last couple of months and I had two P4900's and one 3000IB that all came back within 4 months of original install with the RCA ground problem. Oddly enough (not sure how much coincidence this is), I have never had a single head unit from their Premier line with this problem though. They are supposed to be of higher quality and have upgraded internals so maybe that answers it? Don't know....

Theres gotta be something more to the pioneer thing. Does anyone know where I could find some schematics for the pioneer decks with this issue?
