I understand your concerns about not getting the job redone but maybe you could have worked out a deal with the owner that if the box wasn't built clean and with the accessibility that you wanted the second time around, at the very least maybe a partial store credit?

You will find very few shops that give cash refunds. Great customer service skills will always find a resolve that makes both parties completely satisfied (I have made some of my most loyal customers over the years not by just doing great work, but being there when something went wrong, listening, and coming up with a fair resolve).

Problem is, sounds like there may not be much fixing this situation since you did end up declining his offer and words were exchanged by both parties. I hate hearing a situation that ends like this. No one benefits...
True, always two sides to the story, but like I stated before, at this point it doesn't matter who's right or wrong in what I wanted, my main concern and the real reason for letting you all know about this is how he treats his customers. I was never rude and I got cursed out....isn't it the customer that usually does the cursing and rude part? Shows how he handles customers that aren't happy. There wasn't any solving this situation, he only gave me ONE solution and didn't even bother to work with me on it. Regardless if he made another box that was of a more functional size for me, I'm still paying $300 for something that's obviously not worth it. I wasn't going to waste like 4 hours of my time with something I KNOW I was not going to be satisfied with.

I do plan on getting this "fixed" (In other words scraping the whole "$300" box and just getting it done the right way but I gotta gather up money first.

No they just mounted it, and they claimed that was like a $70 job lol, and when I brought it there all my wires were already there so it's not like they had to rewire anything. If I had known they were going to charge me that much in the price I would of never got that done, hell could of done it myself in like 5-10 minutes. That's something else they left out. Just a really shady place IMO.

Box look shitty to begin with. Average price on a single ported 12 box should be around $150-200 tops. That why you have to be careful with alot of these little mom and pop shops....they can tell you to fuck off and there's not a whole lot you can do about it. Atleast you somewhat got the word out on their business practices.

Yeah, like I said before...live and learn Also, Not that it matters much but it was a 15" by the way

But yeah, it was my fault for being in a rush. I had just gotten this car like a week before I went to the shop and took my system out of my Integra, and I'm ALWAYS listening to it so I was anxious to get it in the Lude, so I kind of jumped at the first thing that popped out at me, it's what I get for rushing it

I take a little offense to the "mom and pop" statement. Heard any good threads about Divine Sounds, Audio Itch, or Buzz Off lately? They all started off as small mom and pop shops back in my day and everyone loved them. Then they got too big and you never really hear anything good about them-average at best.

Problem with Best Buy/CC is what most of my customers say-you are a number. They do it one way and at one cost and if you don't like it, don't shop there?!? Good thing about [most] mom and pop shops is that we can't afford to loose any customers so we [again most] go out of our way to take care of the customers. The one good thing about this economy is that many of the crappy little shops that shouldn't be in business anyway are faltering and folding. Those that take care of their customers are doing fine.

I wake up everyday and ignore the news and ask my guys to do the same. We are thriving because we have a ton of good loyal customers who we take care of no matter what. They know we rely on their business and appreciate them-always have and always will. We all know our good customers by name and everyone that works here NEVER walks past a customer without saying hi. When was the last time you got that kind of treatment in a big box store?

On another side note-certain installers in the big box stores put out worse work than ANY mom and pop place. I would love nothing more than to post some horror pics of installs gone bad that Best Buy subletted the repairs to "little old MCOR" to fix thier F ups. Problem with that is, before Wesley Chapel Best Buy opened, Best Buy was one of our "great" customers. As you all that work there know, there are some good installers, and some that don't belong in this industry at ALL!

Some business owners may never get the customer service aspect (not specifically this thread) but you won't have to worry about that for long as they are getting shaken out daily. Only the strong shops are surviving first the eBay boom, then the economy bust...

What you said I 100% agree with, but also just like you said with "most", you do have to be careful with who you go to, kind of like what I should of done. Back where I used to live last year, there was a place in Deland, mom and pop type shop. And they were my favorite place to go to, hell if it comes down to it I might even bring my car back there if I get the chance. I should of done my research first and asked questions before jumping the gun.

I went there for a job inquiry last year, did not like the whole flea market market thing. not my style of installs so i passed on the job offer. but this is exactly what i would expect from that type of shop.

I was told $300 for the box and the mounting of the amp, I just assumed that the mounting of the amp would be no big deal, the only extra thing they did was run the wire that was already in the trunk behind that carpet which is still IMO no where near the $60-70 they told me TODAY. But you're right, that was my mistake for not making sure. If I had known I totally would of done it myself, I mean I know how to do whole system installs EXCEPT building boxes, that's one thing I don't know the first thing about
