Default Speaker Advice Mids/Highs

I am looking to get some high quality speakers for mids and highs.

Essentially I am looking for recommendation for some high quality speakers for mids and highs. I am looking to get the most out of a sound system without adding a subwoofer. I essentially am looking for the best quality I can get without paying a ridiculous amount as well.

Back in the day when I did my supra I went with MB Quartz, but have been out of the speaker realm soo long I dont know whats good or bad anymore

All recommendations appreciated, Thanks!

I wouldn't necessarily recommend MB Quartz...atleast not anymore...and especially if you're going for decent bass/mid-bass. Obviously though, you're going to be looking at a component set along with a decent amp to power it.

from what little research I have done I am getting the idea of :

Boston Accoustics SX65
Focal CA165a1 and 165cv1
JL Audio VX650-CXi

Essentially looking to replace 6 X 5 fronts and 5" rears

Any further suggestions are appreciated!

Looking around at prices online it seems as though I can get a pair of Boston Accoustics SX65s for about 100-110/pair shipped, so thats not too bad.

I'd like to keep my budget at 150/pair if there is any better quality speaker I can get within that budget.

If your budget is only $150 a pair, this will be considered a low to mid entry level speaker (as far as components go anyway). High quality lines from Focal, Hertz, JL, and DLS just to name a few will start in the $250 range and up (at least from an authorized dealer where you will still have a legit warranty).

I am no longer fond of MB's (had a TON of warranty issues over the last year right out of the box-I dropped the line and dumped all the remaining inventory we had). Boston Acoustics are so-so but again, I am not a fan for the money.

In your price range, and out of what you have mentioned, I would go with the JBL competition stuff. We do sell tons of those and NEVER have any warranty issues with them. They make a great OEM upgrade and can either be amp'd or not (although I would suggest at least a true 4X50 watt RMS amp upgrade minimum to get what you are paying for out of the speakers).

We have even put a few in for other TR members over the years and no one was unhappy with the results (if any of you are reading this thread, please chime in with your experience so he has some real-world references to help make up his mind).

What type of music do you listen to and what exact vehicle are you putting them in? Aftermarket head unit already or factory?

Essentially I am looking for upgrades over OEM, the best I can fit in the stock location. Not looking for anything crazy, but a good quality sound. I listen to Trance/Techno, HipHop, and Alternative, probably mostly the first two. I am going with avic-n5 for a head unit as I want nav capabilities. Also a few other people have mentioned to me MB Quartz isnt what it used to be. I just threw the name out there, bc the sound I got in my supra is pretty much exactly what I want again, I was very pleased with my sound setup in there.
