Default ran into some problems on 98 civic

alright so a friend wanted to put a cd player in her civic so i put on in it. then ran into the problem of the factory alarm that is run through the factory radio. as of right now i just pulled the fuses out of the alarm. is there any way to bypass the factory radio so she can still use her alarm? when the fuses are in the alarm arms when the doors are locked manually the key pad will not work. but there is not a way to disarm it when it gets set off. the car is a 98 civic ex coupe bone stock. i know there are a bunch of eks floating around tr someone had to run into the same problem.

It's likely her dome light also stopped working when the radio was removed. There is a relocation harness that lets you plug in the stock radio, drop it down into the dash straight below there it sits now, and also hook up your aftermarket radio. I don't have it here, but I can have it tomorrow morning. $12 bucks.

Default There is another way

I've seen it done without the harness to save the $12. Takes a little Installation finesse (and no I'm not talking about shampoo)

Why be cheap and do it without? Using the harness you can wire it all up outside of the car and just plug it in, and be done in 15 minutes, and then uninstall it and put it stock just as quick. Soldering wires inside a dash is not fun.

The easiest and most straight forward bypass is to wire a cheap aftermarket alarm into the security module and use that to arm/disarm the stock alarm and unlock the doors.

You can also just rewire the security module under the dash to fool it into thinking the radio is there.

I have done it everyway mentioned above over the years. The cheapest/hassle free way for the average DIY'er to accomplish it is as luke_81 states, install the tee-harness. This can be done in less than 15 minutes since you already wired in the aftermarket HU. Unless you hacked off the factory wire harness connector. Did you pay the $3 for the interface or did you cut-n-splice? If you hacked off the factory connector, you will have to take one of the other options listed above...

That picture doesn't look like it. The second connector seems a few wires short. The one we have used in the past is made by Metra and is a 70-1720T part number as follows:

Metra Electronics Corp. 70-1720T
Civic 1996-98 - Into Car Allowing Keyless Entry

Although Metra's picture is incorrect.
