Exclamation Experienced Track Instructors Needed

Things are really coming together for the SunRiders Primus track driving school events. Time to start rounding up instructors for the March 13 event.

We'd like to have 14 of them total. Instructors will get driving time as the other drivers, but will be kept BUSY all day (every other session) as a ride-along instructor and you will likely have students riding with you during all of your sessions. For their efforts and experience, instructors get a reduced entry fee (probably $40) for the event.

I don't know how many potential instructors are out there, much less how many I'll hear from, so I'm going to present some "loose" criteria. Just bear in mind that if you're on the "less qualified" end of the spectrum, you may get bumped for someone with more experience. (you'll still qualify for a regular "student" slot)

What we'd like are drivers who have lots of actual TRACK experience, preferably prior experience as an instructor.

Next in line would be drivers who have attended at least one instructed track event, preferably something big like Skip Barber or similar.

Our "scrubs" will be people like me who have scads of autocross experience and at least know enough to teach people how to safely get around the race track.

Note that pre-registration for the event is NOT open yet, I'm just collecting info on potential instructors. Please contact me with your name and a little background on your experience if you are insterested. You can post it here in the forum, or in a PM or Email me. I'd actually prefer an email, but whatever works.

And if you know of anyone who would be an excellent instructor who isn't internet-capable, please get me their name and number.

Oh, and we're also interested in instructors who DON'T want to enter the event for whatever reason. If a qualified instructor wants to come out and JUST instruct, we'd be happy to have them.

Thanks.

I was just talking to Keith about that last night. He instructs at BMW DE and so do a couple more from the local BMW CCA, I can ask to see if they're available that day. I'm not an instructor but I do have over 10 track days experience. I'm signed off to drive solo at the track.

I'll let you know what I find out.

Thanks, Jamal. I fired off a note to Danny Shields w/ PCA yesterday, but didn't really have any personal contacts with the BMW club. Guess I do now.

And I think your level of experience is more than adequate for the kind of instruction we need.

Probably one to get on "the bubble" but 10 years or so with 10 autocrosses past two with PCA - shifter karts (80 and 125cc) in Houston (5 track days) , Richard Petty driving school - just starting DE in the Porsche. I know one of the Sebring Instructers I can ask.

Loren, I sent an E-mail to a guy who autocrosses with Martin Sports Car Club. He is, I think, an ex-Skip Barber instructor. He also drives a Miata (his 3rd I believe). There's a link to this thread in the E-mail.

Let's bump this back up a notch.

Anyone else interested or have any contacts?

Those of you who did volunteer, if you haven't already given me a private email address and/or phone number to reach you, please send me an email.

Loren,

I sent out an email on the CFR solo2 yahoogroup letting people know of your search for instructors. I'm sure some of our more experienced folks could meet your requirements and don't necessarily follow TR.
