It is typical for autocross events to require any photographer to have a spotter with them, preferably someone who knows a little bit about autocross and can keep them out of harm's way.

Because as they are looking through the camera lens the spotter is looking at the car that could be coming at them.

Good luck with your future events. You do put a lot into it and it is a learning process. A lot can be put into Drivers Meetings.

I see people out there spending money on the car to improve it … If you spend half that effort just working on your driving skills, making you and the car work together as a team, then you’ll go faster – period. To make the car go a second faster on the track takes a lot more energy and money than making yourself drive it one second faster.
