NASCAR is going even further to limit the participation of Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series drivers in the lower divisions in 2018.

In new rules announced Tuesday morning, a Cup Series driver with more than five years of full-time experience who wants to compete in the Camping World Truck or Xfinity Series will be limited to five and seven races, respectively.

This year, the first time such guidelines have been implemented, the limit for Cup drivers was 10 Xfinity Series races and seven Truck Series races.
"Fans have made it clear that they want to see the future stars of the sport racing against their peers in the Xfinity and Camping World Truck Series," said Jim Cassidy, senior vice president of racing operations. "These guidelines achieve that and preserve limited opportunities for developing drivers to compete against the best in motorsports."
Additionally, Cup drivers, regardless of experience, will be ineligible to compete in "Dash 4 Cash" races in the Xfinity Series. Those same drivers are also not allowed to compete in the regular-season finale or playoff races for each of those series.

 

I wonder why any racing organization wants to limit competition.
