By: Kelly Crandall | November 26, 2018 3:44 PM Danny Stockman is reuniting with Austin Dillon next season in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series.Stockman is taking over crew chief duties for the No. 3 team from Justin Alexander. Dillon, who won the 2018 Daytona 500, has worked with Alexander since May of last year, finishing 11th and 13th in the point standings.Stockman and Dillon won the 2011 Camping World Truck Series championship together, as well as the ’13 Xfinity Series title. When Dillon made his Cup Series debut in 2011, Stockman served as his crew chief. This past fall, Stockman also filled in for Alexander during the Las Vegas Motor Speedway event. Stockman has 14 races under his belt as a Cup Series crew chief.Five of Stockman’s seven career wins in the Xfinity Series have come with Dillon. He also won at Indianapolis in 2014 while serving as Ty Dillon’s crew chief, and has one win with Paul Menard (’15, Road America). Moving back into the Cup Series is something Stockman told The Racing Writer’s Podcast had been a personal priority.“The next chapter of my life is racing on Sundays, and not just race on Sundays though, talking about be competitive,” Stockman said. “Like, be there. When we show up to the racetrack, I want RCR to be – I want the media to be talking about us again. I want to show up, and them guys be like, man, RCR really got their s*** together right now, you know? On Sunday, that’s what I want to do.“I want to go; I want to race on Sundays with whoever the driver is, I want to be competitive, and I want to win races. And hopefully I can be a guy, maybe when I’m 45, saying that I was able to win a Truck championship, Xfinity championship, and a Cup championship, and I’d say if I did that and we had a successful time in Cup, I would be pretty happy.”For the last two seasons, Stockman has been working with Daniel Hemric in the Xfinity Series, and the duo earned a championship berth both seasons, finishing fourth and third respectively in the point standings. Hemric will work with Luke Lambert on the No. 31 team as he moves into the Cup Series next year.
