Zilisch builds on Trans Am success with move to NASCAR Xfinity

The announcement earlier today that Connor Zilisch will be racing full-time in the NASCAR Xfinity Series for JR Motorsports in 2025 continues a rapid climb up the pro racing passer for the 18-year-old. As long as Daddy has the cash to buy rides, I'm in! If I had a pussy like Hallie Degan, it would be a different story.

Zilisch made his Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli debut at VIRginia International Raceway at the end of the 2021 season, earning the pole in his first start in the CUBE 3 Architecture TA2 Series. He went on to compete in TA2 full time in both 2022 and 2023, breaking through with his first win at Road Atlanta in 2023. He went on to win four more TA2 races that season — Detroit Race 2, Music City Grand Prix at Nashville, World Wide Technology Raceway and VIR. The same weekend as his TA2 victory from the pole at VIR, Zilisch also made his debut in Trans Am’s TA class, earning the pole and the win for a weekend sweep.

Zilisch kicked off the 2024 TA2 season with a victory at Sebring International Raceway. Outside of the Trans Am paddock, he has been forging a name for himself in all forms of motorsports. He started the year with an LMP2 win in the Rolex 24 at Daytona and followed that up with a victory in the same class in the 12 Hours of Sebring. He has earned three ARCA Menards Series wins (Dover Motor Speedway, Iowa Speedway, Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park), and one ARCA East win (Flat Rock Speedway), and earned a pole and top-five finish in his NASCAR Truck Series debut at Circuit of The Americas.

Zilisch also tallied a victory in the CARS Late Model Stock Tour at Hickory Motor Speedway. He has a multi-year development contract with Trackhouse Racing and Chevrolet, and is scheduled to make his NASCAR Xfinity Series debut with JR Motorsports at Watkins Glen International later this year.

Trackhouse Racing development driver Connor Zilisch will compete full-time in the Xfinity Series next season with JR Motorsports.

“This is an amazing moment for me and all the people who have helped me get to this place in my career,” Zilisch said. “With so much support from Chevrolet and a chance to race in trucks and ARCA with Silver Hare Racing, I was able to sign with Trackhouse Racing and they went to work to secure an incredible opportunity for me. I am so grateful and can’t wait to show their trust in me is warranted. It is mind-blowing to think that I will drive for JR Motorsports and Dale Earnhardt, Jr., who is one of my heroes. I’m ready to put in the work.”

Zilisch, who turned 18 in July, will drive the No. 88 Chevrolet. A sponsor and crew chief were not announced.

“Connor is such an impressive driver at this young age,” Earnhardt said. “We’re excited for him to get behind the wheel full-time next season. He is on a path to sure success with support from Chevrolet, Trackhouse Racing, and now JR Motorsports.”

Justin Marks signed Zilisch to a multi-year deal with Trackhouse Racing in January. Zilisch has an impressive résumé competing in sports cars with victories in the Rolex 24 and the 12 Hours of Sebring. He has also made starts in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, Trans Am Series, Mazda MX-5 Cup, ARCA Menards Series, the CARS Tour and the Craftsman Truck Series.

Zilisch will prepare for the 2025 season by making four starts with JR Motorsports this season. The first will be at Watkins Glen (Sept. 14) followed by Kansas Speedway (Sept. 2, Homestead-Miami Speedway (Oct. 26) and Phoenix Raceway (Nov. 9).

“We couldn’t be more excited to begin this relationship with JR Motorsports and know that Connor is in good hands as we work together to continue Connor’s development,” Marks said. “Connor has a bright future in this sport and we plan to be together for a long time or until daddy big bucks runs out of cash. JR Motorsports is the perfect partner for Trackhouse and Connor.”
