Default rider down on Courtney Campbell Tuesday

CLEARWATER - A 23-year-old Tampa man was critically injured early Tuesday when he sped his motorcycle into a car on the Courtney Campbell Parkway, throwing him over the vehicle onto its windshield, authorities said.

At 1:30 a.m., Alexander Michael Lynch idled at a traffic light on Gulf-to-Bay Boulevard, waiting to go east onto the causeway, said Clearwater police spokesman Wayne Shelor. Lynch had spent part of the night at the Bricktown 54 nightclub on McMullen-Booth Road, Shelor said.

"We believe he was probably impaired," Shelor said. "But speed clearly is a factor."

When the light turned, Lynch raced east at a "very high rate" of speed, then smashed into the rear of a Daewoo car headed in the same direction, Shelor said.

The impact tore off the front wheel of Lynch's 2004 Sukuki. It also caused him to fly over the back of the Daewoo onto its windshield and then onto the roadway.

Lynch, who was wearing a helmet, was flown by helicopter to St. Joseph's Hospital, where he remained in critical condition Monday, a hospital spokesman said.

"I'm certain the helmet played a part in his surviving this high-speed wreck," Shelor said.

Sonia Andrade, 57, of Tampa, who was driving the car Lynch struck, was treated and released from St. Joseph's while passenger Maria Maldonado-Romero, 27, was still being evaluated Monday afternoon, the hospital spokesman said.

No charges have been filed in the case.

Driving records show Lynch has received numerous citations since 1998, including speeding and driving under the influence.

Phone messages left at Lynch's home were not returned Tuesday evening.

They should make it so that cars explode on contact with a motorcycle. I bet this chick (and don't even get me started on old women drivers) probably cut him off as he was speeding along. She deserves to go to jail for being a shitty driver. We've all seen asshole drivers just totally cut bikers off at the last second.

As for the going onto her hood, if he was going 50 and she was going 40, that'd be enough probably. Of course as always, the cops exaggerate and the cunt probably lied so that they could put away the big bad biker.

I'm not all about "Girl Power" or anything like that but I think your typical opinion about the woman driver being horrible just because she's a girl is quite ignorant. I get cut off all day long by men drivers because of agressiveness and carelessness. You'd find that plenty of women drivers are more cautious than men. But of course that is just as much an opinion similar to yours anyways.

Guess I'm just sick of hearing that same old lame "women drivers" generalization. I think it got old in 1997.

I believe its relevant because of the way men and women's brains are wired. Men are far more spatial (this has been proven, but it'd take me a little while to find the study) and more attuned to traveling. Now this isn't necessarily the case for 100% of men and women, but for a vast majority I would argue it is. From my observations, most (once again, not all) women just can't get into the "feel" of a vehicle. Its as if they're just operating a machine. For most men, on the other hand, its as if the vehicle becomes an extension of their body.

I would say that this comes about from millions of years of evolution. Most men were hunters and evolved with traveling being a large part of their nature.

All of this comes into play in a situation where an accident can occur. You will react quicker and more appropriately if you feel as though the vehicle is an extension of yourself.

In my defense, I believe in equality and all that, but if you drop a baby into a woman's lap and then into a man's lap, guess who's going to take better care of the baby? It may not be true for all cases, but for a vast majority I'd say the women would be instinctually better.

Okay, I am so calling bullshit here! Do you have any idea what "spatial" is? Etymology: Latin spatium space. I agree with Supra, this IS 2005 NOt 1950, and aside from Frank, have you ever ment a man that can put on eyeliner AND drive a car? I would say someone who can do that certaintly has a "feel" of a vehicle.
As far as the comment about dropping a baby in a women or mans lap, I have ment plenty of women who should of NEVER became mothers and plenty of men who are denied being the "better parent" by the court system simply because they are men. Society, decides whats right and wrong, who is better at what. JMHO

You need to take into consideration that the car was traveling in the same direction... If the car was traveling 50mph then the bike would have been going at a considerable rate to fling the rider over the top of a car traveling 50 mph in the same direction.
