Question Financing Rumors

Sold the Kan-o-tuna a couple of months ago and have had a big itch for something new. The only thing stopping me...the price of insurance to carry comp and collision (usually required when financing). One of my clients was in yesterday and wanted a motorcycle quote for insurance. I asked how he was able to finance w/o insurance; he said that Suzuki does not require you to carry any form of insurance when financing a bike through them. Is this true? Anyone currently financing that are not required to carry insurance?

Thx

If you finance through GE capital you're not required to have insurance.
Suzuki does not require insurance
Honda does
Yamaha/Kawasaki, not sure

If you do get financed without insurance you will be sorry. Imagine having a totalled bike and still owing 8K or something. Not a good idea.

I thought the state required insurance if there was a lien on a vehicle?

No insurance required because the financing involved is not like a vehicle loan. It is considered revolving credit. Just like a department store credit card. Interest rates of 16-24% are not uncommon. Yeah, you better believe they are going to make their money one way or another.

And if you wreck the bike, you're still responsible for payoff at that high interest rate. Is it worth it?

I think the last issue or so of SportRider magazine had a great article on the fine print of motorcycle financing/insurance. Highly recommend you read it. Uncovers those hard to resist $39/month deals too.
