Ducati Monster 620...opinions?
Ducati Monster 620...opinions?
I sat on one of these the other day. Would have liked to ride it. I loved the riding position, much different, and more comfortable than my thruxton. Seems like it would be pretty fun, and looks kinda cool. Seems to have decent specs. Any opinions about them? Anyone ride one? Are they expensive to maintain? I've seen used ones go for around $5k. Seems like a pretty good price for a Ducati even if its the "entry level" Duc. Curious to hear from anyone that's ridden one. Probably better deal for the dough on a Japanese bike, but I like something different. Not that I'm in the market....just like looking for now.

Wow, 5k for that bike seems quite a bit bit much. IMO anyways. But if you gotta have the name tag I guess that can be as cheap as it gets...
I'd would opt for the sv650 naked instead, because of it's after market support. And likely to be in the same price range, maybe less...
The real bargain on Naked bikes are the SV1000 & the Z1000. The Z being the rarest of the two... not many gave it a 2nd look and can be found for under 5k EZ... I paid 4.5k for the 1st stock. And 4.6k for the 2nd and it has a PCIII & 1k full tit Muzzy exhaust... can't beat that.
But I hope you're not getting rid of the Thrux... that my friend is as bad ass & as rare as it gets on the streets

so when i went to get my bike from Daytona the guy who owned it and his roomate attended Wyotech. His roomate rode a brand new Ducati Monster. It was sick looking. Both of them were attending the Ducati program at the school. Well, for a class prject or whatev he was able to bring his Duc in for it's 5,000 mile service. What he had to tell me was astonishing.
Some of the things he found wrong were:
-The valves were way outta spec
-The cam chain tensioner wasn't very tight at all and he said he was within a C hair of throwing the cam belt off the teeth which would destroyed the engine.
-The timing was WAAAY off according to him as well.
Some other things he was talking about was that Ducati's original PCV system on the motor dumped right in front of the rear tire. Well the engine created significant blow by and dumped oil very nicely on the rear tire. AWESOME huh? Ducati's answer? A Y fitting that routed it back to the intake and the other side into the crankcase
From what this guy had to say, it sounds like Ducati's consumer production bikes are pieces of shit that require rediculous maintenance schedules. Unless you are comfortable around motorcycle engines I would steer clear of the Ducs. Me thinks they are more of a headache than a pleasure to ride. When I buy a bike I wanna ride it, not tell my friends I can't ride this weekend cause my new bike is in the shop. (although lately my XR has been in that state. )
