The length of the cable cannot get shorter or it would open the butterfly valves even when the throttle on the handlebar was closed. there are special throttles made for reducing pull by routing the cable over a 'cam' which works on a ratio of a circle. Say you turn the throttle 1/4" well at the outside of that circle you have moved the cable equal to 1/2" or so. I need one on my XR as well.

these are for dirtbikes but their must be some for street or you can maybe adapt them to your bike. Not sure exactly how the throttle on street bikes are setup as far as diameter of the tube and length and shit. But find out those may work for you. I would prob just get the quick turn ones on the bottom of the page. The cam ones are awesome for dirt but not necessary for street unless you want something totally trick

On my bike (06' gsxr 600) they unfortunately have the same problem, fortunately for me I found a link and I guess everyone is using a 04' R1 throttle tube...Im sure there is something like this out there for your bike...stk R1 throttle tube was 10 bucks compared to 50...Nothing against what Rales said though...
