1991 Miata, BRG, New Engine, $1800
1991 Miata, BRG, New Engine, $1800
I just bought a house, so I bought a truck. The wife says I need to get rid of one of my toys, so the Miata seems like a good candidate.
The Good Stuff:
- Approximately 120k on the body. New engine came out of a 1993 and had 82k on it when it was rebuilt 10k miles ago. Runs and drives great. This was installed by First Place Engineering in Tampa and I have receipts for all of the work and parts.
- Transmission shifts smooth and clutch engages well. Clutch is an Epexy aftermarket clutch and was installed about 25k ago.
- When the new engine was put in, so was a new timing belt, water pump, all new seals, new hoses, new belts, etc.etc. Everything under the hood that should be replace was.
- The A/C blows ice cold. It was converted to R134 and refilled 2 months ago. It gets cold in a few seconds and stays that way.
- Brand new Falken Azenis Tires all around 2 months ago.
- Suspension off a 2001 Miata, so it has NB bumpstops, shocks, springs. Rides really smooth.
- Softtop is an OEM replacement from 2 years ago. It is complete and in pretty good shape. The rain rail is in good shape. The rear window needs to be cleaned, but it's there and intact.
- Magnaflow exhaust has about 20k on it. This isn't a buzzcan exhaust, so you get a throaty but not overpowering exhaust note.
- Racing beat intake has newer K&N filter on it, recently cleaned and oiled.
- Hard Dog Ace Rollbar painted green to match the car. This isn't a "style bar", but rather an SCCA-sanctioned rollbar. It does not effect seat travel or the top going up and down and gives the chassis any incredible stiffness that you can't get without a rollbar like this.
- Really decent Pioneer sound all around, 6.5" in door and 6" x 9" strapped to the rollbar in separate boxes. Also, headrest speakers from the factory. Comes with nice Sony HD Radio.
The Not So Good Stuff
- Horn doesn't work and the airbag light flashes. I think it just needs to be hooked back up, but was like this since I got the car. It's common in this cars for people with aftermarket steering wheels (which the previous owner had) to disable the horn and airbag. I think that's what happened here.
- Body needs paint. You have your typical dents/scratches/etc from being an 18 year old car and the hood, front bumper and driver's fender were replaced when a Ford Ranger backed into the car at low speed. The damage was only skin deep, and all panels damaged have been replaced from other miatas.
- Missing the gauge hood. The one that came with it was cracked, so I pitched it.
- Interior leather is pretty worn. While the dash and other parts are in good condition, the driver's seat is cracked and showing filler. This is also common with an 18 year old car.
Overall, it's a decent car for anyone who doesn't need a lot of room or who wants to run SCCA or AutoX in it. I'm asking $1800 FIRM. If the car doesn't sell for $1800, I'm going to keep it.
According to Kelly Blue Book, the FAIR value on this car is $1,865. Considering the new engine and all of the new parts, as well as the overall low mileage of the year, I'd think $1,800 is a bargain.
