WHEATON, Minn. — A lot of people dream of restoring or buying a classic car. Maybe it is a pickup from your high school era or a convertible your dad had as a young father.

But one bachelor farmer who lived near Wheaton, about 30 miles south of Wahpeton, N.D., took that dream to the next level, with a massive collection of hundreds of classic cars.

Jim Graham, who recently passed away at 88, left behind quite the collection of more than 250 cars he had accumulated over the years. At one point the collection numbered around 500 vehicles, which he housed in sheds across from his farm.

“He was a bachelor and I suppose he probably just got into a hobby and (had) nobody to shut him down on it, like a spouse would normally, you know,” said longtime friend Richard Serocki.

Now the vehicles he leaves behind will be sold in a two-day auction on Aug. 9 and 10.
Cars in the collection include a 1959 Impala — a one-year-only design — and 75 convertibles, and they’re getting attention from bidders registered online from 30 states and 21 countries.

Graham even had a collection of tractors, but the focus was on cars. Cadillacs, Buicks, Plymouths, Hudsons, Fords, Model As and collector pickups.

The collection presents quite a picture of American automotive history. One depression-era vehicle has a “Roosevelt for President” campaign sticker on both sides.

For the last few months, a group of Graham’s friends from Wheaton has been fine-tuning and tweaking the cars in preparation for the big sale.

They describe Graham as a unique man, a military veteran who came home to farm after serving.

The long-time collector also had a wild side.

“He liked pull tabs, drinking and raising hell, is what I was told,” said Yvette Vanderbrink with VanDerBrink Auctions, which is handling the sales.

Graham’s love of cars started with his 1934 Ford coupe. He and a friend used a chisel to remove the roof, laid a little fiberglass down and installed a plastic windshield from a speed boat. Graham drove the car to prom.

Over the years, the collection would grow to an impressive size.

VanDerBrink Auctions is handling the auction of Graham’s vehicles, which is taking place over two days.

VanDerBrink warns that GPS does not work well while navigating toward Graham’s farm, which is 12 miles west of Wheaton on Highway 27.

PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) – For years, Todd Werner has been collecting rare, one of a kind race and drag cars as well as other valuable automobiles. Recently he decided he is going to sell 44 cars out of his collection.

“I have heart in all of these cars. I went and hunted each individual car, researched them. So, my heart is in my car collection,” said Werner. “It’s just time for a change.”

Housed in a warehouse and workshop in unincorporated Pinellas County, the cars will soon be headed to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania where they will be featured at Mecum Auctions in August.

Only one of the 44 cars will have a reserve or minimum price—a 1970 Superbird driven by the king, Richard Petty. Werner says he won’t be disappointed if it doesn’t sell.

“This is the only car I have a reserve on,” said Werner. “If I take it home, I take it home.”

As we were packing up I didn't dare leave. It had started to rain. Milt Roorda had shuttled 3 cars back and forth with Rosemary to support the car show. I was not going to leave as long as there was one of his cars parked there.


It started to rain. Milt Roorda had thrown some of his display boards
telling about his 3 cars into one car and was hand cranking one of his antique Fords.
I asked him why he was doing that when he had an electric start on that particular car.

Milt's reply....in the rain... "I crank it by hand.....because people watching get a kick out of it."

DIY LS Trunion Upgrade With COMP Cams

The LS family of engines has become the most popular powerplant used for performance upgrades, and for good reason: they’re small, cheap, have loads of horsepower potential, are plentiful, and the aftermarket has showered the industry with go-fast parts for them.

If you’re looking to find one of these magical engines in a junkyard you might want to think about upgrading the stock rocker arm trunions before you try and make big horsepower.

The rocker arm trunion is part of the assembly that rotates the rocker arm each time the engine goes through the combustion process. When you upgrade the camshaft in an LS engine, the additional lift and duration will really increase the amount of stress on the stock rocker arm. The problem is that as stress intensifies it will cause the stock cap inside the rocker arm to move and eventually walk out of the rocker arm itself. When that cap moves too much the needle bearings that are inside the rocker arm will fall out and get circulated throughout the engine, causing a lot of problems.
