Jan Nelson has volunteered to hold the next meeting February 15 (3rd Saturday), 10AM at her and Dale's house and only members on the email list or friends of Keystone Motor Club will be notified of the location.
Jan has suggested boat tours and "water boarding" (that's not the right term lol ) as activities.
Jan and Dale Nelson will supply Juice, Coffee, and water.
Members are encouraged to bring whatever covered dish they feel like.
We might start a list of food being brought. Email me.

Permission first, Cost second, Hang the meeting notification sign.......keeping our spot neat.
We are awaiting Winn Dixie Permission to hang a small professionally created meeting notification sign on an already existing metal post/pole next to where we meet. Once we have permission, Milt Roorda is looking into having a professional sign maker create the sign. I'm thinking about bringing my hedge clippers to neaten up our parking spot for our sponsor, Winn Dixie.....Anyone have a shovel to clear off the water drain leaves to keep it dry?

Default Marc covington, 75, finds car joy owning, driving 24 fords since ’59

MARC COVINGTON, 75, FINDS CAR JOY OWNING, DRIVING 24 FORDS SINCE ’59

MARC COVINGTON, 75, FINDS CAR JOY OWNING, DRIVING 24 FORDS SINCE ’59

We love to get owner stories of Ford passion being handed down from fathers to sons (and daughters), and it’s even better if that passion leads to a long list of Ford vehicle ownership. While that’s precisely the kind of story we got in from Marc Covington of Texas, this 75-year old true-blue “Ford Man” upped the ante beyond owning some 24 Fords over the years. For Covington, it’s not just the quantity, but the quality of his Fords, that makes his story special, and well-worthy of being featured in this week’s Fan Spotlight:

My name is Marc Covington. I'm 75 years old and began driving in 1959. My father was a Ford man, and I've followed in his footsteps. Although he wasn't mechanically inclined and never cared much for "performance cars," he always (with one slight exception) owned Ford cars. I also have owned only Ford products . . . as of this date, I’ve had 24 different Fords, one Lincoln and one Mercury.

“I bought my first Ford, a 1948 two-door Deluxe, back in 1962. My first brand-new Ford was a 1966 Fairlane GT that I ordered with no options except the four-speed tranny and an AM radio. Of all the Fords I've owned in the past 57 years, that car is one I would really like to have back -- and I've owned some special Fords!

“Consider these: A 1966 R-code Fairlane 500 (one of just 57) with only 138 miles on it when I bought it in 1979. And a 1969 Mustang Sportsroof with a 428 Cobra Jet – and those are just a couple. A couple others that are special (probably only to me) are a 1972 Maverick (that I drag-raced after installing a Boss 302 V-8 and a four-speed stick), and a 1989 supercharged V-6 Thunderbird SC. (Both of them I bought new). Unfortunately, the only pictures I have of these cars are small Polaroids

“I began drag racing with a 1957 Ford in 1964, and then progressed with my '66 Fairlane GT, that Boss-302-powered 72 Maverick (currently owned by my oldest son but now with a 363 cubic-inch small-block that he built), the '66 R-code Fairlane, plus a ‘61 Falcon Ranchero with a Boss 302, among others. My last race car was my '61 Starliner with a 483-cube aluminum-block FE and a Jerico 4-speed.

“My current Fords are featured in the photos that I’ve sent along to you. They include the 1960 Starliner with a 428CJ dressed as a 406 6-barrel with a 5-speed Tremec TKO; my 1961 Starliner 428CJ with a 5-speed Keisler SS700 tranny; a 1968 short-bed F-100 with a 352 V-8 and C6 automatic; and my 2012 Mustang V-6 with a 6-speed automatic. I built both of the 428 engines in the Starliners, as I first learned engine-building back in the '60's.

“As I said, I've always owned ONLY Fords -- and I will continue to do so as long as I'm able to drive. Enjoy!”

Default Every time I make a mistake, I tell my self I'm getting better at this.

Every time I make a mistake, I tell my self I'm getting better at this.
We got an email from a concerned car enthusiast.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My friend and I both brought our cars to the Feb. 15 Keystone Motor Car Club Meet and Greet at Winn Dixie. This event is posted on the FlACarShows.com web site... Guess what; NO ONE was there. I saw at least four other cars that appeared to be looking for this show as well.

WHY do you allow a post to show on Flacarshows.com if you don't regularly hold a show when you are suppose to??? Maybe your members where informed of the cancellation, but any potential new members (like me) would be severely disappointed in your group.

If your club is not going to regularly hold a show on the 3rd Saturday of the month, PLEASE remove your posts from car show web sites.

-----------------------------What follows is my reply:

Name withheld,
I want to apologize.
You are correct. I got it wrong.
Our normal, regular meet and greet is at the Winn Dixie, and our normal listings/ads in FLACarShows
and other places are correct.
-------------------
At the last minute/Wednesday, I sent out (only to members), an alternate location of the hosting members house where we cooked hot dogs, baked beans, chili, etc. socialized a bit and held the meeting.
--------------------
I thank you for bringing the foul-up to my attention.
I also thank you for being tactful and gentlemanly when you mentioned it.
I understand about the unfairness and disappointment that a new member would have gone through.
--------------------
We had planned for a sign to be placed on the light post next to where we normally meet......
containing a phone number, in case someone wanted to know a meeting location.
I accept full responsibility for the missing sign, and for not getting the meeting listing changed in time.
--------------------
We will get better at this.
-------------------------------
To correct things for future meetings and prevent a future occurrence,
I will check on the progress of permission to post the sign
and also check on the progress of sign creation.
------------------------------
If things fall into line, the foulup should be corrected by next month/March, as well as in the future.
Since you thoughtfully brought this to my attention, I will place your email address
with those of the members, and you also will be getting meeting notifications.
You will not be getting spam from Keystone Motor Club.
----------------------------
Our newsletter is located here:
https://www.tamparacing.com/forums/e...or-club-5.html
----------------------------
Our March 2020 meet and greet is planned for the 3rd Saturday of the month at Winn Dixie
and if anything changes, I will notify you.
I thank you for your patience with me as the meeting notification secretary.
-Bob

Default On February 15 2020, The Keystone Motor Club mt'g was hosted by Jan and Dale Nelson

On February 15 2020, The Keystone Motor Club meeting was hosted by Jan and Dale Nelson
at their home, instead of Winn Dixie,17649 Gunn Highway and Van Dyke Road.

The Keystone Newsletter has over 7,000 views since June 2019. WE are the car scene, and people are interested in what we are doing. https://www.tamparacing.com/forums/e...or-club-5.html

We had several photographers who will be sending me pictures to be posted.

For anyone wanting to post in the newsletter, the way to do that is around post #25-26.
Post to say hi and you will get automatic updates when anyone else posts.
There will be no spamming by Keystone Motor Club.
---------------------------
Milt Roorda dropped off the Keystone Banner and Dale tied it between two trees at the entrance.
When I arrived, Jan had her Aston Martin DB7 parked with hood open, and I parked my Dodge Charger
with hood open also. Other members did the same, and some members parked their street car
in a line facing the open-hooded cars.
-----------------------------
Chef Henry Kerr arrived early, Jan and Dale set up the tables, grill, supplies and chairs.
Hot dogs, baked beans, chili, drinks, etc was the menu.

Linda Martin cooked a huge container of home made baked beans.
As a single guy, I should have brought a container.....
---------------------------
Maybe we should offer 50/50 tickets for folks wanting to donate $1 toward a food reimbursement,
since some of the food had to be bought instead of home made.
---------------------------------
Jan Nelson is looking into getting sign permission with Winn Dixie.
Milt Roorda is looking into getting a sign and bracket done professionally.
---------------------------------
For the sign, maybe something simple but letters centered:
KEYSTONE MOTOR CLUB
meets every 3rd Saturday
10AM -NOON 813-839-4281
or 813-452-7807
---------------------------------------------
Phone numbers allow someone to call anytime about meetings, even when we ourselves, are not there.
So far we have $10 towards the sign donated by Earl Baker. Bob Vail is holding the $10.
---------------------------------------------
Further (sign or otherwise) suggestions are welcome and will be passed on. If you have thoughts, make them known. Email me, text me, call me or post in the newsletter. We are willing to listen.
--------------------------
--------------------------
Thank you to Dale Nelson as MLOD (Meeting Leader of the Day)
for presiding over the club meeting.

Alan Mevorah, dual member of Keystone Motor Club and Cigar City Flatheads, mentioned that they are having a tour March 6, 7, 8, 2020. Details should be arriving soon.

It was suggested that for insurance coverage, every event which a Keystone member attends should count as an official Keystone event. That sounds like a good idea to me, and each member knows the rules of their own insurance company.

Carol and Sam Prentice, former Keystone President stopped by to once again show support

Bob Carter will be sending an expanded list of needed parts to restore his upcoming 53 pickup.

Tom Werner is looking for help swapping a 2016 Coyote 4WD into a 1979 Ford Bronco.

---------------------------

We will meet March 21 2020 3rd Saturday at
Winn Dixie,17649 Gunn Highway and Van Dyke Road, East side of parking lot.
---------------------------
Vic Piano is still the keeper of the table and tent for when we need them.
As of Feb 15, Jan/Dale Nelson is the current keeper of the banner.
Bob Vail is the cash holder of our $10 sign fund.
-----------------------------------------------
Meeting attendees------------------------------February 15 2020:

Henry Kerr...................Paul Shoaps................Gloria Johnston
Betty St John...............Karen Williams.............Bob Carter
Jeannine Wilson...........Mike Peterson..............Dick Peterson
Vic Piano.....................Al Mevorah..................Dawn Wood
Randy Packer...............Sam Prentice...............Carol Prentice
Monika Leon.................Tom Werner................Deb Werner
Jemel Azank.................
Bob Vail---------------------and a few I cannot yet read...

While not for your specific older car application, there are some good principles mentioned in this article.
https://www.tamparacing.com/forums/c...ime-miata.html

Were it my installation, I would probably clean and buff off the old paint, smooth up the welds a little and repaint it with POR15.
That way it should look good for a long time.

I would be careful, not to get any POR15 on ANY threads.
That stuff is hard as a rock and would have to be cleaned off the threads by re-tapping the threads.

Default I had mentioned incorrectly that in the past there was a lack of publicity

I had previously mentioned incorrectly that in the past there was a lack of publicity for the Cigar City Flatheads Winterfest Tour.
Vic Piano corrected and clarified for me, and included a bit of history as well.
Thanks, Vic for bringing that to my attention.-Bob

For the sake of clarification, your opening statement is incorrect. As I mentioned, previously (for the last 14 years) I promoted the event on the FordBarn.com as the event was created specifically for Flathead Ford enthusiasts. The idea to invite others to participate is a recent development. While we welcome others to join in the fun, that has not been paramount in previous years promotions.

A little history for you, I was instrumental in forming the original “Barner’s Bash” with the owner of FordBarn.com, in 2005. From 2008 up to 2017 I ran the event on my own. When I launched the Cigar City Concours d’Elegance, Keith stepped up and took on the responsibility of the Cigar City Flatheads event. That said, in the past two years we have let the Keystone Motor Club know about the event, and invited them to attend. Hopefully some will participate this year.
Best Regards,

Cigar City Concours d’Elegance
