Default part 2 Dan and Gail Holsen's mustang story

part 2 Dan and Gail Holsen's mustang story

The Voice Page 6 A Pony’s Tale
My wife, Gail, and I have two sons, Doug and Greg. Greg is married and has a two year old daughter and a new three month old sone. Greg and Amber live in Orlando, and Doug lives here in Tampa. I retired from Miller Brewing Company after twenty years. My last position was in Sales and Marketing here in Tampa, so when I decided to retire, I was already away from the ice and snow of my home state, Wisconsin.
I have always had an interest in cars. My first car was a used ’69 Camaro that I had when in college. One year I and three others drove all the way to Key West on Spring Break and camped at KOA’s. I don’t have to tell you Mustang owners how small the trunk is in a Camaro for a tent and luggage for four people. Somehow, we did it and have lots of stories to remember the trip.
My next car was the first new car I ever bought. It was a 1978 Martinique blue Trans Am. With title, taxes, and dealer prep, the total cost was $7,600. Warned by my father I would always regret it if I sold it, I never did. It is being restored by Rusty Gillis – a shop that specializes in rebuilding Mustangs. I am going to try to keep it mostly in stock form but will rebuild the engine to increase it to about 400 horsepower. I became interested in the Mustang hobby because I’ve always wanted to own a US high performance vehicle with a solid pedigree. Mustang was the obvious answer.

In addition to being a BAM! member, I am also a member of the Wild Stallions Mustang club, which has most of its members in northern Hillsborough and Pinellas counties. In addition, I host a Facebook page for the Keystone Car Club. Keystone Motor Car Club Members | Facebook They host a meet & greet on the third Saturday of each month and draw all types of cars from rat rods, Mustangs, MOPARs, Corvettes, model T’s, Gassers, and other custom builds.
You never know what will show up!

I heard about BAM! from Frank Morales, who invited Gail and I to join, when we met him at a Wild Stallions picnic. Our favorite BAM! outing was the cruise to the Don Garlits Museum of Drag Racing. It was a great day excursion, although I have to say that watching Frank Morales do the dishes at Cracker Barrel, so we could get a table
quickly, was the real highpoint of the event.

Default THE CAN COLLECTOR ~ This man used to go to all the public functions. And

THE CAN COLLECTOR ~submitted by Gen Rummy
for Keystone motor club newsletter

This man used to go to all the public functions. And he always carried a bag to collect empty bottles and cans. His name was Albert (Tapper) Torney. Everyone thought he was a bit eccentric and kids would tease and hassle him.

Then it was discovered that he sold the empty bottles but only some of the cans. After he died in 1998 (aged 86) his large collection of model cars made from aluminum cans was discovered. This goes to prove..."you shouldn't judge a book by its cover"

Was he a body shop repairman before he retired?

Some of his AMAZING collection ——

Keystone United Methodist Church 16301 Race Track Road 33556 next to the 3 story White Cross

JULY 3 2022:
Keystone Motor Club supported KUMC for the July 3 cookout. Bob put up $25 for a "Gas Reimbursement" for driving to KUMC on Race Track Road, and put up a free oil change certificate from Tires Plus and the Best Of Show trophy was donated by Gen Rummy with some Red/White/Blue patriotic ribbon attached . The men of Keystone cooked Burgers, hot dogs and pulled pork. It was a church covered dish, and also had baked beans with bacon strips. The winner of the $25 donated it to the church. We announced in the Fellowship Hall that any church member could enter the drawing for the oil change gift certificate, for the $25 gas reimbursement, or for the trophy without having to be a car club member. 14 people registered and Gary, one of the KUMC Ushers showed his exceptional Red PT Cruiser without signing in. We would like to acknowledge Richard for his help in making the music work.

We used red tickets only for all three drawings.
THIS WOULD BE POST 489 in the newsletter.

Default a KMC Dashboard Hula girl donation, a backdrop, and thinking about a way to close the

Hi Bob,

That’s awesome you had such a great turn out!
I’m sorry I missed it.

I have a donation if interested. Let me know if you are and I’ll bring it next month. It’s a dashboard hula girl. Sounds like it fits the theme for next month. Picture attached.
Gee… are water balloons welcome? Lol. I’m just kidding. I’ll bring cold cut up watermelon.

I have a large photo backdrop like your on the deck of a cruise ship if the club ever wants to use it one month.
Problem would be to figure out how to hang it. I don’t have a stand for it.

See ya next month.

Renee, take it as a compliment,
You are a fun person! lol

YES! we will accept the dashboard Hula Girl!
That is a perfect match for Beach Day.

Cold cut up watermelon?
Yes! that will fit in also. Perfect.
--------------------------------------------------------
I like the Cruise Ship backdrop idea....maybe put that up along with the Beach backdrop.

Tell me how wide and how tall the Cruise Ship backdrop is and what it is made of.
and I will start thinking of how we can hang it. Does it have grommets? Shower curtain-type holes?
Does it need clothesline string? So many ideas.......I will measure how high up the rail is
around the porch tomorrow/Sunday.. We pretty much can use the right side of the building on Saturdays,
since no one comes in on that day.

We might start parking a few cars in the south Field now that fireworks guy is gone.
----------------------------------------
You can see in pictures that originally we had our KMC banner on the rail.... but...
I shot some screws into the posts near the road last time so we can now hang the banner
out by the road......I think we were noticed last time by drive-by traffic....Lots of
parents came in to look at our cars with their kids.
---------------------------------------
I'm keeping quiet about those water balloons.
I know who would get ballooned after the drawings are over....... lol
----------------------------------------
Been thinking about a way to close the meet....maybe a serenade using the lines of a famous song
but not specifically like the pilots did in the movie: Top Gun......but then I would have to find a willing woman or two
to participate.....

Something along the lines of: the Doo Wop song:

Goodnight my love...
Pleasant dreams and sleep tight my love...
May your day be sunny and warm
and bring you closer to..... KMC........

That wraps up our meeting folks!
Thanks for coming out!
Drive safely and watch out for the street turkeys!

What do you think?
-Bob
