Keystone Motor Club

1.Each month we can get our Keystone Motor Club Meeting posted on a West Coat Florida schedule. I returned the confirmation today.

2.Additionally,
Keystone Motor Club will be listed soon on a state-wide data base of car clubs.
Maybe at the next meeting, we can take a group picture, to add to our Keystone listing.

Who has a camera?

I'm willing to listen to further suggestions...email me.-Bob
  • We can change the information as needed/if needed, beyond August 17.
  • We will also have the newsletter email link posted each month and I'm volunteering to be the unofficial contact person.
Here's what it looks like:
Every month on the third Saturday. Hosted by the Keystone Motor Car Club. This is a public meet and greet, sometimes with food. Anyone with wheels is welcome to stop by. No judgements.

SVRA Speed Tour shakes, rattles and rolls Indianapolis

The Sports Car Vintage Racing Association (SVRA) rolled into Indianapolis Motor Speedway this past weekend filling the garages with over 300 racing machines reflecting 100 years of history, including the modern Trans Am Series Presented by Pirelli. It was a rare display of diversity in automobile design and engine sounds, conjuring up emotions of glory days past with the vision of what the sport’s future can be, all rolled up in the new SVRA “Speed Tour,” a traveling circus of motorsports experiences for competitors and fans alike.

The pillars are the historically significant SVRA vintage cars; the new Vintage Race of Champions (VROC) for racing legends; the contemporary Ferraris and Porsches of International GT; and the Trans Am series.

SAM HAS THE BANNER, TABLE AND A COUPLE OF OTHER ITEMS. HENRY IS GOING TO TRANSPORT THEM FOR SAM. SAM HAS KEPT THEM FOR THE CLUB FOR YEARS. SAM IS A KEEPER.-Henry

Henry,
Thank you for bringing that to my attention.

Sam is a good guy. I'm glad he's been there for the club.
I hope Sam keeps coming out to see us. I hope Sam will stay involved.
Maybe club Property Manager would be something Sam might want to do.

He wanted to pass on the presidency, but since we are a friendly group
of people, Sam may want to stay involved. I hope so. Sam is highly reliable.

Especially since Sam was the main man for a long time.

He put in a lot of time making the club work.
He deserves a certain amount of respect. We should not just cut him off.
There is such a thing as withdrawal symptoms.

An article for Keystone newsletter:
When IMSA held races at the current Florida State Fair Grounds near US301 and I-4
What I recall about the current Florida State Fairgrounds can be found here:
Tying some Tampa Racing history together with links: Tampa International Raceway (Fair Grounds)

https://www.tamparacing.com/forums/ge...l-raceway.html
You can see the ticket booths in the background with Florida State Fair painted on them.
It would be a good idea to watch this video soon before it goes away!
-----------------------------

IMSA raced sports cars at the current Florida State Fairgrounds.......(some of those roads are still there)
but that was before the St Pete Grand Prix came along. At both locations, volunteer workers would install fences, etc
in return for getting into the races free.........until IMSA decided to shut out the workers.....bad move....
----------------------

At one time IMSA headquarters was over on Henderson, approximately across from Outback restaurant.

  • Ultra Rare 1969 AMC AMX “Special” Privateer road race car
  • Race history inluding 1970 FIA 12 Hours of Sebring & Daytona
  • Monterey Historics, Sonoma Wine Country, & Coronado vetraran
  • Factory supplied “Special” parts including unstamped block
  • Holman Moody & Franklin Engineering assisted with orig build
  • Clocked at 175mph at the 1970 Daytona Race
  • Complete restoration by Michael Eisenberg, MAECO Motorsports
  • Orginal motor rebuilt by Tony Oddo with only 5 races
  • Engine is 390 Cubic Inch with approximately 500 HP
  • AMX retains original roll cage with1970 Sebring Tech Sticker
  • Have orginal Log Books & Registration, only three owners
  • Orginally campaigned by SCCA SE Director Bruce Moorehead
  • Won track championship at Lakeland Florida
  • AMX has one Best of Show Trophy
  • Red, White, & Blue AMC AMX is always a crowd favorite
That Blue round decal just in front of the front tire is the University of South Florida Sports Car Club.
I have a duplicate on the side of my helmet, today....and the patch is on my sports car club Jacket.

Bruce Morehead former USF Sports Car Club, (who is still around in SCCA, and still shows up for the plant city car shows ) raced an AMC AMX at Sebring 12,hour races.
When he qualified for the 12 hour, he asked American Motors Corp if they would contribute something toward his racing effort.

Instead of cash, AMC sent him a cardboard box that had some Red, White, and Blue AMC racing jackets.
It was a simpler time.
----------------------

Later on, AMC spent millions with Roger Penske to race an AMC Matador in NASCAR.
AMC streamlined the car and made 4 bolt wheels an option. Mark Donohue was Penske's driver.

4 bolt wheels could be changed 20% faster than 5 bolts during a pit stop.... lol

Now that things are looking really good for the next Keystone meeting and greeting,
on Saturday 17 August 10AM, as far as food, and supplies, etc. at Gunn Hwy Winn Dixie...
thanks to the members who are sponsoring the club's meeting and greeting
(see post #39)

Maybe it's about time to think about some things to bring up during the meeting.
Send me your ideas and I will add them to the list which I am starting.
-Bob

A few random order things for discussion at the August 17 meet and greet at Winn Dixie 17649 Gunn Hwy in Odessa; SE corner of Gunn Hwy and Van Dyke Rd....and maybe for some future meetings, we keep adding to the discussion list.

Acknowledging Jan and Lori Ann Mathis for securing the Winn Dixie meeting spot.
Thanks ladies.

Suggestions:
Four people could arrive before 10AM to get the 4 spaces at the "notch" on the East side of the lot.
Across from the notch, we can park beside each other, maybe with hoods open and facing the
notch and the North-South aisle through the parking lot. Maybe not a good idea to "rope off" any
spaces that would interfere with customer parking.
-------------------------
-Take pictures of members with their cars for the newsletter for anyone who wants to be in it.
Maybe do this at every meeting.
+other ideas?
Since my camera is internet compatible, (plug in a cord) I'm bringing it. Maybe others can bring other cameras too. If you want a pic of you and your car, I can push the button.
-Bob

The newsletter is here. Click:
https://www.tamparacing.com/forums/e...-car-club.html

-Adding to the list of future meeting places, or for future "special event" meeting/publicity days
-Mobley and Gunn real estate parking lot.
-Gun Highway Flea Market.
-Keystone park pavilion.
-For cooler weather, parking near the road at Winn Dixie (hoods open) to attract drive by traffic.
-maybe some signs/banner next to? in front of? our cars?
--Zephyr Hills Streetside Classics
-Piggy back with another car club at THEIR meeting place.
-A members house by invitation, if they are willing to host.
+Other ideas?

Members talk about car events or special events which they have attended since the last meeting or so.
-Maybe a regular feature to keep us all informed.
+Other ideas for meeting?

Suggestion of future "programs" for future meetings?
+Other ideas for meeting?

-Progress report/thoughts on adding other car clubs email addresses as "Friends of Keystone"
-Someone mentioned KCA?
-Who has a contact person?
-Who has some car club email addresses?
+Other ideas?

-Some ideas for "Driving Tour" ideas:
-Keystone piggybacks with other clubs tours.
-Vic Piano volunteered for a driving tour committee.
-Cigar City Flatheads tour is coming in November 2019 or early 2020.
-Any member can suggest a place or two to drive to and maybe a side activity, a "tour", a meeting, someone else's car show, etc. Since the club is going to be run by our members, maybe we can find a separate person to be tour leader for a day...or as needed....and pick some target dates to make it happen....if someone wants to have one. I can contribute a few maps of back roads.
-What distance are we willing to drive? Close by? County? Plant City? Dade City? Kissimmee? Daytona?
-A drive to Zephyrhills for hot dogs where Elvis ate and taking pictures with his cardboard cutout and restaurant interior/exterior?
+Other ideas?

-Close of meeting:
Members mention of car events or special events upcoming within 3 to 4 months of a meeting.
-Maybe a regular feature to keep us all informed.
+Other ideas for meeting closures?

By Paul Courter. A 1954 Chevrolet five-window 3100 Series pickup owned by Wes and Nancy Snybert. Starting with a sturdy but bedraggled daily driver, Wes and Nancy spent a year and a half restoring it to like-new condition, topped off by a Juniper Green finish with black fenders. They installed a four-speed transmission, but otherwise stayed with factory specifications. That includes the newly rebuilt inline 6-cylinder engine, and an all-new interior.

In dealing with organizations...including car clubs......
Most of the things going on around me are between person #1 and person #2.
It's not between me and either person.
-----------------------

Neither person should expect me to pass on (their side) of whatever conflict they may have with each other.
So any negatives they want to pass around won't be passed on by me.
-----------------------------

When it's between person #1 and person #2 my friendship will not be used
to spread rumor, gossip, opinion or innuendo about someone else.
That keeps me out of trouble with almost everyone.
----------------------

I don't take sides and grownups should solve their own problems without recruiting me to get involved.

A person builds themselves up by building themselves up,
no one builds themselves up by tearing down someone else.
