Culver City became a movie studio.....eventually

Jalopy Races from Hollywood is a short dirt track racing television show filmed at the Culver City Stadium Speedway in California hosted by announcer Bill Welch. The 1/4 mile Culver City dirt track had a special breed of down and dirty racers, like grinning "Termite" Snyder and Scotty Cain. They were announced as the "Pecks Bad Boy" of the track. Garage mechanics stock car racing, having fun on the track.

It is said some of these jalopies, like a 1932 Ford, could be purchased at the time for $5, and you're in the racing business! A lot different from NASCAR racing today. Wild racing action with modified jalopy's from the 1930's and 1940's, including the popular "Crackup of the Week" segment. The Culver City Stadium Speedway was torn down in 1954. Douglas Aircraft Company built a factory on the site.

Now, there is a Costco in it's place. Travel back to a half hour of real dirt racing action from the 1950's. Many drivers on the ticket: Jimmy Evans, Jack Austin, Clyde Smith, Ed Van Eyk, Bobby George, Termite Snyder, Eddie Hodges, Andy Anderson, Hal Bergman, Fred Russell, Don Noel, Dick Elliot, Bob Russell, Dave James, Ted Rosenberger, Glen Wallace, Bob ross, Fred Russell, Armand Wahl, Pee Wee Depauw, Bill Mitchell, Scotty Cain, and Howie Douglas. Transferred from 16mm b-w film.
