"Relay For Life" Event... ((( Continuation from "Cancer?" )))
"Relay For Life" Event... ((( Continuation from "Cancer?" )))
As many of you now know and read, my mother is a breast cancer survivor and my aunt is battling brain cancer (just returned this week from Houston for another surgery).
So raising money for this event meant a lot to me as a person, a family member, and as a good sumaritan (sp?). It felt good to be a part of this event, for sure.
Amanda & I walked a good 3 hours or so, before passing the torch to our counterparts that were there from my International Honor's Society at SPC as well.
Here's some pics:
My mother, crying, telling her story...
Survivor's Lap...
My mother, on her Survivor's Lap...
Fact:
PTK paying respect...
And the reason why I participated...

Who/what is PTK? Good job. It's not too late to donate yet, is it? I'm STILL waiting on paychecks.

Amanda,
PTK = Phi Theta Kappa. It's an International Honor's Society at my school, St. Petersburg College. Our specific Chapter is Alpha Zeta Tau. The I/H/S represents the best students from each college; those carrying above a 3.75 GPA I believe (mine is a 4.0), and requires a commitment to excellence in your scholastic achievements, but also a commitment to the community.
Our Chapter is considered a 5-Star Chapter, meaning we meet & exceed all the requirements of an Active Chapter. We partake in many fund-raisers, such as this "Relay For Life," and also campaign for changes in Tallahassee, and also do stuff like Road-Side Cleanup ("Adopt-A-Mile" Program) just to name a few. Each of these activities that we partake in, as a student, gives us the opportunity to experience working in the community, but also allows us to use these activities in scholarship registration applications. Usually, the students with the best of GPA's and most involved in the school and community, get the most amount of money to continue furthering their education!

...Short story...
Being smart isn't considered cool, don't fool yourself!
But it is cool to me. It's opened a lot of doors for me, and I look forward to graduating in the top of my class, for sure! Hopefully with a 4.0 or higher. Will definitely help me get transfered to a 4 year to finish my degree.
Who knows, I just may stay in school and get a doctorate!

eh..I'm the one who didn't apply herself. Hey, you're dedicated enough. Get your doctorate!
I just found out a friend of mine's breast cancer came back.
