jfwy just havin a little fun dont get all bent out of shape please.

In all seriousness you really up against a wall on this one. Being that your only 17 and still a minor in the state of FL I beleive you are not allowed to work 40+ hrs (full time) I think the max for a minor is only like 35. Plus being under 18 any place that use's heavy equipment (ie construction) wont hire you due to liability reasons.

Plus this GED issue might tend to be a problem. Now I am not sayin the GED is a bad thing I know alot of people who have them and are succesfull. But most employers might see that and say "hey only 17 and he quite high school to get a GED???? Well how long is he gonna work here and then decided to quite on us?????"

Your best bet in this situation is to get into a grocery store. They are great places to work IMO. I use to stock for Publix for like 5 years (staring when I was 16 then up into college) and honestly that wasnt that bad of a job but alot of that was because we made it fun (I worked there with a couple friends)

Plus some of the cashiers are hot and makes for some nice eye candy at work Just be carefull dating them and sleeping with them. I made that mistake lol. Sleep with em and then I would move on to the new better looking girl who they just hired. Made for some weird moments at work

Good luck to ya bro!

at 17, couldn't you go back to high-school and finish it? You COULD give up your cell phone and maybe even the car for a bit. You might graduate a year behind, but it's probably the best thing at this point because no one is going to ask you if you graduated with your class - just if you graduated.

You could always do the homeschool thing online through Welcome to Florida Virtual School If you work hard at it, you could still graduate on time even. All from the comfort of your home. Score! School in your robe! Plus a game on the tube! LOL Well, you get the picture...Anyway, it's FAR better to do it that way than to drop out. Now for the GED/diploma arguement...I'm not really a good example. I have my GED and I have a decent job, was in the military, and am fairly happy with my life thus far. Would I have changed it? You bet. I would have stayed in school and gotten my diploma and joined the Marines. My life would have been a LOT different. My suggestion, stay at home and do the homeschool thing.

Two of my good friends have GEDs and they're both in IT. They're both in their 20s.

One makes 95,000/year, the other makes like 85,000/year. How much do you all make again?

I have a highschool diploma and am going to college, so don't start with me.
You can all take your ignorant comments about GEDs and shove 'em. There is no reason to start belittling this guy and his choices, let alone do so when you're dead wrong.

gee I still think a HS Diploma helps in this day and age. Just maybe a easier start. Heck my dad doesnt even have a HS education and he retired back in the late 80's and he made over 6 figures but at a hard start in life.
Yeah once you get some experience in life a GED might not make a difference at all, heck not even a college education sometimes.
I think some of the people here where trying to convey that it might be a easier start in life with a HS education at least.

I think all the schooling in the world doesn't make a difference if you're a dipshit to begin with. I support this outlook because I have supervised and worked alongside people with full-fledged master's degrees. I have absolutely no degree. I know plenty of people who paid thousands and thousands for school and work shit jobs making 15 dollars an hour because they just have no direct job skills and no drive.

Education can be a tool for success, sure. But its a very minor tool when compared to your own drive and commitment to being successful. For some people, depending on their chosen path in life, dropping out and getting a GED then doing whatever may simply be a way to jumpstart your goals by a couple years.

i dont know if i ever told you how old i was, but im 17 as well too. you can work any amount of hours if school is not in session (like summer or holiday breaks) but only 30 during a school week. Dave can vouch for my working my ass off, as alot of my residual income went to him rebuilding my trans in parts/labor .

its all about the mindframe and the will to make shit happen. im still in HS, i work at Wendys (yeah, it sucks ass - but it pays the bills - barely). i work as many hours as they will give me, and pay for everything short of food that i use. i drive a 91 GT, that i've worked my ass of for. ive never been handed anything, but i still have nice things because ive had the will to work for them. i have insurance to pay every month, along with nearly $300 a month in gas because i commute 21 miles to work one way. i live without things that are not necessities (such as a cell phone) in order to maintain whats important to me (my car).

work is scarce out there, ive been trying to get a job closer to home for a while now. good luck with your search.
