Default Any Good Tampa based Carb Guys

I have a Scotty Mcclendon custom built 750 on my SBF Set up, I am looking for someone who can help me at the dyno? I know my way around tuning my car and a dyno but I lack the fine tuning knowledge that it takes to make a good (not daily) driver and optimize HP! I have a Wilsons Single stage kit on the car that I will tune @ a later date. Any suggestions of Tampa Shops or anyone that can meet me that would be great. I know time isnt free and I am more than willing to pay for your time! I have used proven powers dyno and those guys are pretty cool but Ramsey's shop on 41 is close! I will not need you for a few weeks my trans and converters at FTI getting surgery! Also anyone around that can bend 3 1/2 pipe I need some flow tubes bent! Thanks for the help guys I'm fairly new here and its been two years since the car has seen pavement and its killing me to go race!

Get with Wendy and John,.. I forget their nicks here on TR. They go by Dominatrix on N2S. They know a good carb guy and John isnt too bad himself from what I understand.

Who me???

For me, dyno's are hard to tune on. (for anything more than wide open) Do you have a wideband in the car?

Where are you located?

No Wide Band yet! I currenty use a Msd 6al ignition,Retard Controller for nitrous and a 2 step for launch control, your basic run of the mill stuff, I have a Digital 7531 Ignition system and a FJO Nitrous Controller I will be installing in the future. I prefer the dyno over tuning with the wideband on the street just becuase you can see the effects of your adjustments. Also I have no O2 bungs in my collecters!

Problem with that is running lean can show HP. With nitrous running lean is dangerous. You can be pig rich on the low end and completely lean out on the big end. Or have a lean stumble and then go pig rich,.. thats how carbs are.

I'm no expert but I know my way around a carb. I tune my carb by reading the plugs. If you know and understand how to read them,.. they can show you if your advance comes on too soon, lean on the low end,.. lean on the big end or too rich vice versa. I've never done it with a wide band,.. that would be a new experience for me. But I imagine a simple wide band and reading the plugs will get you 99% of where you would be with a dyno for a bit less money. If thats not a problem for you or you really just want to hit the dyno to have some numbers I can understand that. They will (Or should) have a tail pipe sniffer at the dyno to show if you are lean or not for cars with out a wide band bung.

My method would involve me hitting a 4 lane road not far from my house. Depending on my rear gear I would do either a 2nd or 3rd gear pull to what ever my max RPM would be. Come back to the house and pull the plugs to read them. Make adjustments,.. clean the plugs and reinstall them. Rinse and repeat. Once I got it to where the plugs were reading good then I hit the track for a TnT night and complete final tweaks at the track based on MPH,.. not ET. MPH shows HP,.. I drive a stick and my ET's can be inconsistent to say the least. But I know if my MPH climbs,.. I'm making more HP. The ET's will depend on my launch and shifting skills. Thats the old school way that I was taught. If someone does it differently or if there is a better way I'm all ears.

A car strapped down on a dyno will not act the same on the street. Like i said before, dynos are great for wide open stuff but, fuel in the carb moves around alot on the street and will affect things that you won't see when it's strapped down. We made 740rwhp with a blow-thru set up and it drove better than stock efi.
