Question Anyone here use or have used a Hobbs switch on their car ?

So anyone use or have used them on a car ?

Looking at installing one on my car after doing some research and want some opinions or feedback. I might use it as a means to add / remove timing on my car to assist with a few things.

timing? never though of that, on the race car we used it to shut off the ignition if we lost oil pressure to the motor.

I used it like that.. kinda.

With the key on and engine off the fuel pump and fan were not on. But as soon as i started the car and the "hobbs swtich" saw more then 5 psi of oil pressure everything would turn on. This way no "race car" switches.

I am thinking about putting one on the turbo bonnet and linking it to my ignition box where I can have it retard timing. Right now I have my timing locked out at a very low setting. While this is playing it safe on the tune it makes the throttle response very laggy below 2,500 rpm's..

So the thinking is that I set the Hobbs switch up to retard timing at some pre-set level when boost hits it. And so I can run more base timing for better throttle response and cleaner burning off boost or at low boost.

And who said carb cars were low tech ?

I want timing pulled at idle and at low boost levels so no. Looking for quicker throttle response off boost.
