How did they decide to make 1,964 cars?
[h=1]Ford to Build 1,964 Units of 2015 Mustang 50 Year Limited Edition[/h] To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Ford Mustang the automaker is doing more than simply placing a yellow 2015 Mustang convertible atop the Empire State Building and throwing a party. Ford has also announced plans to build 1,964 units of a 2015 Mustang 50 Year Limited Edition, which was announced and displayed at the 2014 New York International Auto Show.
Ford says the special-edition Mustang GT will roll off the factory floor with every option, including the Performance Pack. That means a 5.0-liter V-8 engine making a minimum of 420 horsepower and 390 lb.-ft. of torque resides under the hood, and that the Mustang 50 Year Limited Edition car is equipped with 19-in. staggered-width aluminum wheels, high-performance tires, and 6-piston Brembo front brakes.
Changes specific to this model include a chrome corral for the galloping horse emblem in the grille, chrome trim around the windows, chrome tri-bar taillight detailing, and a simulated gas cap for the rear of the car. The Mustang 50 Year Limited Edition also gets louvered rear quarter windows reminiscent of the 1965 Mustang Fastback, but here the louvers are actually layered sheets of glass. Inside, the Mustang 50 Year Limited Edition features 2-tone Cashmere-over-Black leather seats, contrast stitching throughout, an axel-spin finish for the aluminum trim on the dashboard, and loop-carpet floor mats with suede binding.
Buyers will choose between a manual gearbox and an automatic transmission, and between Wimbledon White and Kona Blue paint, colors exclusive to the Mustang 50 Year Limited Edition. According to Ford, this will also be the only 2015 Mustang model offered with both an automatic transmission and the contents of the Performance Pack.
The new 2015 Ford Mustang 50 Year Limited Edition will be among the first of the redesigned pony cars to be built once production begins later this year.
