On "My Car Story" we're at the Wisconsin State Fair Park in West Allis WI on 2-18-16 at the World Of Wheels car show. We're looking at a 1966 Ford GT 40 MK-II in black with white strip paint, and with an engine start up. The car's Owner is Randy Thomas. Randy shares the background of his Museum quality car. I really like the look of his car. Randy is with Performance Unlimited Racing at 766 Grand Ave., Hartford Wi 53027 If you have a Shelby Cobra, or a replica Cobra, you can call him at 1-262-673-4077, or go to the website Performance Unlimited Automotive Center - Hartford, Wisconsin - USA Main Lobby ENJOY!

Roads & Rides

The Ford GT 108 is an important car in the history of racing. It was the first car built by Ford Advanced Vehicles division. The first of four roadsters and the only Ford GT driven by Jim Clark. Ford GT 108 was built for Shelby American as a prototype, test bed and promotional platform. It never saw any competition on the track but drivers such as Ken Miles, Sir Stirling Moss and Jack Brabham all had a chance behind the wheel. Even Carroll Shelby and Henry Ford II had their turn in the car...You can almost imagine the conversation going on between those two as they drove around the track in GT 108. Photo by Patrick Ernzen

A Ford GT40 That Never Saw A Race Track

New CarStories Podcast Available Every Tuesday https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/c... Of the seven Ford GT40 Mark IIIs built, only four were delivered with left hand drive like this car. This rare street-legal example (serial #MK3 1105) was originally owned by well-known Austrian conductor Herbert von Karajan, who drove it sparingly—and never in the rain.

The Mark III differed from earlier versions in that it had round rather than oblong headlights, an extended rear deck with room for luggage, a less rigid suspension and a more comfortable interior. Powered by a 289-cubic-inch 306-horsepower Ford V8 engine coupled to a ZF 5-speed manual transmission, the low-slung car can accelerate from zero to 60 miles per hour in just 5.3 seconds. Top speed is approximately 165 miles per hour.

The GT40 model designation was derived, in part, from its low height, which was a mere 40 inches from ground to roof.
