Default Ideas for an engine swap?

Ive got a 944 sitting that I have got to do something about. One thing is for sure though, it has to leave running.

Now, I have some things to check on the engine before I can advance any further. DME relay, crank position sensor, and of course all of the wires in the ignition system just to make sure its not grounding out somewhere. But thats after I get a new battery on Friday.

Anyhow.

I was also kicking around this idea. If I cant figure out where the problem is, I wondered if I could swap engines.

Ive thought about many. Some ideas were a 13B mazda rotary, SR20DET, KA24DE/DET, the obvious SBC350, various Honda engines that may or may not work because of the way the engine "spins", the Buick 3.8L SFI turbo engine, and so on.

I want to try to stay away from a V6 and definately the V8, but will go to a V6 if necessary. Im looking at this mostly from a budget/weight/size standpoint.

Because of this, the KA24DE looks to be probably the best solution right now. It is plentiful, parts are in good supply, room for upgrades, shouldnt be much heavier than the engine that is already in there and I can probably get one at a rock bottom price from someone doing an SR20 swap.

There is another problem I have. Aside from the SBC 350 swap, I cant find any engine swap info anywhere for this car. Its almost like it never happens. I know Im going to have to fab motor mounts and probably other things so no biggie. Im sure my neighbor can help with that. He can weld and all that neat stuff.

Im not necessarily looking for more power off of the bat, just to get the car running. Im sure with the condition of the car, and with a running KA24 I should be able to pull at least the 2k I want for it off of eBay.

Remember, this is just a brain-storming session and an info gathering time. There is no definate plan. Ideas are welcome, flames are not.

Well, a 13b is probably doable, but a 20b is out of the question.

As for a carbed anything, I know absolutely jack about caburation, how it works, and how to tune, etc.

Ya go for a 13B, but be sure to remember the "T"

And don't go carb, theres a reason its in the past. EFI is the way to go for sure.

The problem with the 13b is, how do we get the eccentric shaft to line up with the torque-tube since its situated in the middle of the engine.

13bt should be a doable swap but you are sacrificing reliability.............

if i were you.......id just keep the same engine and just put some minor bolt ons.
