IRL adds St. Petersburg street race to 2005 schedule !
How about this shit ! :o
Time to start working on media credintals.
The Indy Racing League broadened its all-oval series Thursday with the addition of a 2005 race through downtown St. Petersburg, Fla.
The IRL previously added races for next season on permanent road courses in Sonoma, Calif., and Watkins Glen, N.Y.
``The St. Petersburg event allows the IRL to compete in another warm-weather market in advance of the Indianapolis 500,'' IRL president Tony George said. ``We are continuing to enhance our schedule with the addition of road and street-style events.''
The St. Petersburg race is scheduled for April 3, when it becomes the first non-oval event in the IRL's 10-year history. It will be run on a 14-turn, 1.806-mile temporary course that includes a runway at Albert Whitted Airport.
It will be the third race on the IRL's record 17-race calendar for 2005, following races March 6 at Homestead, Fla., and March 19 at Phoenix. The series then moves to Japan for the April 30 race at Twin Ring Motegi before heading to its premier event on May 29 at Indianapolis.
The two road races next year will be at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma on Aug. 28 and at Watkins Glen International on Sept. 25.
Former car owner Barry Green will be the St. Petersburg race's managing director, and Andretti Green Promotions, an affiliate of the IRL Andretti Green Racing team, will be the promoter.

What happened to Tony George's vision of an ALL american oval series with ALL american drivers? He's created a poor version of CART.
Most of these guys haven't made a right turn in 2 years.
It should be a fun destruction derby.
