Default Opinions...most reliable/fuel efficient car for less than $2000

As the title reads, what is everyone's opinion on the most reliable/fuel efficient car for less than $2000? By reliable I'm talking it can stand regular 800 miles trips on the highway.....Pretty soon it's looking like that I'm going to be spending a shitload of time on the road between South Miami and Gainesville, and I'm pretty sure that I don't want to beat on the trans-am like that nor spend the $100 in gas it would take each round trip. So I might pick up a third car for a while and just use it for highway trips, probrably an import of some sort I imagine.

keep the flaming to yourselves, I'm looking for honest opinions here..thanks

though for me, you'd have to change it to 10 inches, and you'd have to change inches to millimeters, and you'd have to change 10 to 5 and you'd have to change dick to poor excuse for one.

I've got a 97 Chevy S10 4-banger 5-speed with 130K on it. The only trouble I've had is alt and A/C. The damn thing wont die. The good thing about a truck is you can beat the shit out of it and not care.

Hell, my escort wagon only cost me $250, gets good gas mileage and is pretty trustworthy for a cheap car with almost a quarter million miles on it.
