Default Cop Crown Vic Vs. Ordinary Crown Vics

Everytime i look at a Crown Vic i just seem to know which one is a Undercover and which one is not. I been thinking about this lately and it seems that the police cruiser have black side view mirrors instead of being once color as the car. See for yourself

and an ordinary car

Now post up what other differences u know

They have the car pushers on the front of the undercovers somtimes. There is a little red light in the front windshield of the cops. The cops also have yellow license plates, black rims and a short little antenna in the center of the trunk. Also, not like this will help from the outside they have no carpet its like a truck bed liner instead.

Externally; Most U/C Crown Victorias have the black aluminum rims with chrome Ford centercaps. A lot of the times they will be white, black, or dark blue. They have black painted grilles, not the fancy color-keyed ones. Same goes with the mirrors. (This reduces prices a little bit due to less fancy-ness.). Many of them have antennas located on the trunk, and a spotlight on the driver's side windshield pillar. Not a lot that I've seen have the push bars on the front. On the trunk will be a black badge saying "Police Interceptor". Inside you'll probably see a partition for back seats. Black door handles... That's all I can think of right now. Of course, they are very identifyable.

Otherwise, to seperate them from the Crown Victoria LX's, they have heavy-duty cooling systems, dual exhaust, heavy-duty transmission, calibrated speedo's, and a few other things.

You forgot teh black market chips that boost HP by 50%!!!

Yeah, some don't even have that antenna any more even. They're not technically called Undercover, anyways, just unmarked. I think the rims are the best indicator, honestly - black with the chrome centercaps.

Most don't, in fact.

Depends if it is just a base P71 or a S.A.P. (Street appearence Package) P71. A SAP will have a chrome grill, body color mirrors, b pillars, a Crown Victoria emblem on the trunk, body colored rear fascia, and full wheel covers, chrome door handles and lock plungers.

A base P71 will have the black honeycomb grill (after99), black B pillars, a Police Interceptor badge 9after99) steel wheels with center caps, black door handles and lock plungers (after 01)

The antennas are dependant on what the specific department installs. Fords involvement with the antennas ends with the pre-laid wiring, if it is a chosen option.

Internally the only differences between a P71 and a civilian version is a heavier duty suspension, upgraded wiring harnesses, bigger alternator (200 amp starting in 2004), few available options, dual stainless exhaust worth about 10hp, stainless fuel lines, and a different computer. The only differences in the computer is a slightly higher idle 800rpm vs. 600rpm to help with alternator charging, and possibly a slightly different tranny program (i dont think anysone has found out for sure weather or not the tranny programs are different or not) Also P71's have aluminum driveshafts anbd are available with either a 3.27 or a 3.55 rear gear, civilians normally come with a 2.73-3.27 depending on package and year.

*EDIT*

in 2006 Balistic door panels became available.
in 2007 17" steel wheels became standard on P71s
