RB series are oop (out of production) for good. I doubt they will go with a V8, I just dont see it happening. Best bet and what everyone seems to think is they will use a destroked & fortified VQTT. Which would be really sweet.
The fact that they kept it under the Nissan name tells me they aren't going to pussy foot around with this thing like some feared they would. This is the first GT-R Nissan will introduce to their entire world market. Now if it were a USDM car only, then yeah.. We'd see a V8 and well, probably a 3 inch lift with a extended bed and suicide tailgate with nismo all weather off road red neck on the fly towing capability.
It matters that its a nissan because the Skyline nameplate has always been a Nissan. Infinit wants the car because they think if nissan has something on there showroom floor that costs more then Infiniti's car it will mess with there market share...........or so goes the reasoning of many major autmotive journalists in trying to figure out why Infiniti would want the car.
Either way nissan can make it work and keep infiniti happy too. Dodge sells the viper and that doesnt screw up Chryslers sales and Chevrolet's Corvette isnt killing sales on cadillacs.
Its a matter of heritage, remember when ford tryed to replace the mustang with the probe? How much people bitched that they were abandoning a icon of their company. Same instance with Nissan and the GTR, its simply not a Infinit and has no buisness being badged as one.
As far as engines go if they use one that they already have I see them probably yanking the VQ35DETT from the JGTC 350Z. They might design something from the ground up but thats going to be some serious cheese to drop on a complete ground up engine if its only going to be used in one car.
