i dont know if i can explain this very well.
im looking for precision cutting on some thin metal.
Im doing some custom body work to one of my projects and im looking for a tapered thickness and hight on a pretty long piece of metal.

im thinking lazer cutting is prob the only way to get it how i want it.

looking for 3/4's of a inch then tapering down to 1/8th of a inch.
but i need that 60in's long and a hight of 1/8th all the way down.
mild steel is fine, gonna be painted/welded on so.

ill need some other little tid bits like this type of cutting but i just wanted to get my idea across.. if i even did this.

im sure my measurements arent 100% correct yet, i might have to change somethings up but you get the idea.

so does anybody know of any type of lazer cutting metal shop that can handle a job like this?

I'm sure there's a business locally here (clearwater) can help you out.
I would stop by a CNC shop, preferablly a shop with SEVERAL cnc machines, and talk to them.
Sure it will be expensive.

 

Tampa Bay Steel has a large processing facility with cnc & laser machines. They should be able to help you out. 800-283-0475.

some machine shop should be able to handle that, i cant do it becouse the biggest machine i have is 50". no need to laser cut it unless its cheaper.

 

im doing some metal work on one of my Datsuns.
cant say much because i dont know how its gonna turn out but just think new Viper on the side . old 250GTO on the back/quarter panels, and C5 lower rear end.. god i love body work

 

Tapering over a distance is nothing more than surface miling while the piece is elevated at one end, if the taper is linear.

 

I just looked at your car pics. Wish they were bigger and/or would enlarge. Now I understand about the guy in the shopping cart.

ya im pretty creative when it comes to anything, but more so with cars.
