On a Porsche 911 - the wing is typically there to reduce lift. At around 150 mph the whole car tends to get light, like 350# lighter in the rear.

The wings, the really effective ones, are typically high and away from the body to get the maximum effect with the minimum amount of turbulance.

Now, that said, with the wing, you also need the front spoiler or you'll really get the front end light...

As far as GT3 vs Turbo. Sure the GT3 has less HP - but it also has consderably less weight too. On a race course, less weight means faster turn ins, faster stopping, less consumables on stuff like tires, fuel, brakes. I'd personally take a GT3 over a Turbo. But I don't do much dyno or bench racing.

i couldnt pick which car i'd rather have, unless i also determine if it would be track, or street driven. gt3's aren't the best daily drivers as i'm sure you know.

i usually call unything OEM a spoiler, and anything aftermarket a wing.

Funny I came across this post when I did a google search.Now that my LS1 FD is gone I am looking for a 993 for my next project.I will be hitting all of the central Florida auctions until I find the right one.This will be a fun project,more so than my FD was.
