Default classic cars and classic tags

i remember hearing some time ago that if you have a classic car, if you can find a florida tag the same year as your car, you can legally register it at the DMV, is this true? So if I have a 72 and find a 72 tag, Im good right?

Whats the point of using an old tag?

Is it just to keep the tag looking dated to match a car or something?

Pretty much.....

Yes, you can register an original year specific tag to a vehicle of the same year. If you have a 72, your lucky, Im pretty sure 72 or 73 was the last year of year specific tags. Ebay has some nice condition 72 Florida tags, I was just looking for one a few weeks ago for my Caprice.

I'm getting ready to do an authenticated plate, 1953 ...

Be sure to read the link above...you need to be sure it hasn't been 'restored', and it will take some time, as it has to be sent to Tallahassee.

If you don't already have a 1972 tag, there will be 100's of them at the Z-hills show later this month...
