Stretching a tire makes the sidewall slighly more stiff since it takes away some of its ability to flex under load. Not saying its the end all to the argument, but a mild stretch isnt going to hurt anything.

Alot of it comes down to the tire construction itself. My slightly stretched 255 NT05's are still going to be better than non stretched RS2's which are just as sticky but have a softer sidewall.

Extreme stretch is one thing, but if the bead is still on the lip of the rim and its just the sidewall pull inward its not that big of a deal. Plus if you look at tire weights you can save a few lbs by going with a smaller tire. Again not saying its the reason to do it, but it dosnt kill performance as much as you'd think.

Exactly, I have some extreme stretch and I'm not effected by it too much.
