no joke that fe3 motor is potent! Try and think of the longs of the lines of a boosted crv! Not insanely fast but quick none the less!

Well actually. The sportage has the FE3 engine that can be put into a miata with a little bit of work. Good power upgrade from the 1.6/1.8. Mazda basically sold the block castings to kia. My buddy is in the army and picked one up as a beater for a few months before he deploys for 900 bucks.

If it swaps for the B6 (1.6L) and BP (1.8L) Mazda engines I say swap the Kia for either a later B6 or BP and give it some boost. Either engine will hold 8 psi pretty easily. Avoid the early B6 as they had some crank issues. You could probably boost the Kia, however I dont know much about them, and would have less confidence in it.

As long as the Kia engine is strong enough I would tend to agree. However its not munheard of to go smaller displacement with boost, many OEMs do it.
