New school domestics vs. imports.....
What it all boils down to is 3 things
Cheap
Good
Fast
you can pick any 2 of the 3.
I choose Cheap and Fast, so I drive an ugly gutted CRX with some pocket change put into the motor.
I've seen lots of very good fast cars with a lot of money put into them from any manufacturer, porsche, ford, lexus. In reality a good fast car can come from ANY manufacturer if you have enough money. I'm not interested in how much money you can throw at your car by having a shop install all your parts for you, I'm not interested in your $6,000 turbo kit, I'm not interested in your new GTR, or your 2011 mustang, EVOs or whatever it is that you drive that cost you more money than I make in a year. All that proves is that you make more money than me. The automotive performance industry is an odd one, its one of the few markets where someone with a lot of money can "fake it" and pretend to know what he is talking about as long as he has spent enough money on his car. I have found that the only people who you can be certain aren't just weekend warriors looking to throw away money are the people who build the cheap fast cars with their own 2 hands.
What I am most interested is the Cheap and Fast cars. I once met a guy who inhereted a busted up 280Z. he swapped in a junkyard motor that he rebuilt, pieced together a turbo kit for it, ran it with methanol injection. It was a lot faster than I thought it would be, and I give the guy mad props for the build.
Another time I met a guy with a classic VW bug, he had swapped in a different turbo'd VW motor and would just scream down the track. Very fast car, I dont know much about it but the guy didnt spend more than 5k on the total build because he did everything himself. I give this guy mad props too.
One of my friends from work built up a foxbody mustang using the motor he pulled from a mark VIII, (he explained it as essentially the prototype version of the cobra motor) decently quick car, not as fast as some of the others, but its a labor of love and that car was very cool. He had to stop the build before he could get the blower installed but I'm sure if he had finished it would have been just as fast as the others.
Show me a car that was built by the owners hands for less than $10k and I'll show you a cool car with an owner who I'd like to meet and talk to, regardless of the country of origin.

I just wish more people would stop blindly hating a car just because where it came from. The notion that a car is good/bad solely because it's domestic or foreign is just ridiculous.

Really.. I dont hate the domestics as much as I say I do..
Really would love another Fox body... But can never find one that jim-bob hasn't beat the hell out of it..
And So what... im a Honda Owner but am no where near as ignorant as most of them...
But I will admit im an Asshole when the V8 nut swingers come up to me and talk shit about my smaller then a 2.0 liter of soda motor... But its all in good fun.. We pick at each other... I have fun with it...
I know my shit is slow.. You dont have to tell me. I really dont care to much about swapping and or building the motor.. its got Ac.. and moves.. thats all I care..
Im getting to old for that shit. then worrying every night that my car will be there in the morning.
And yes I will be that one guy that if I see your mustang or what ever broke down on the side of the road. I will stop and offer some help or a ride or what not.. unlike everyone else that just stares at you and drives by..

Fuck the new Body RX-7/9. If they are coming out with the one that looks like that upgraded RX-8 pos body they can go to hell. I rather take a FD body and try to modify it and pass it a long as a 4th RX-7 then to have the new one in production.

My opinion: nobody's making anything really inspiring right now, sub 40k, with possible exceptions to the 5.0 Mustang, Camaro, 370z, and the Genesis coupe. These are the only cars that I "lust" over and would consider buying, should a situation arise. My tastes have changed too though, and Im leaning more towards a BMW as my next toy.
