Why would you not wear a full face helmet in a 917, the steering wheel is steel death.
your feet are out in front of the front axle anyway on the 917 - not sure it matters. Before the short body - I was in a conversation with Brian Redman (several other people around at RRIII) and he was describing the original 917 on the Mulsanne Straight at LeMans. Where he said you had to gradually decelerate about a 1/2 mile from the corner (no pulling your foot off the gas to stab the brake) if you came off the gas too fast, the rear end would get light (at 250 mph) and start to come around on you.
He also talked about the flying starts (where drivers would run to their cars) and said the first four or five laps you would run without seatbelts so you could focus on speed and get ahead of the traffic.
