The stock internals are designed to handle in excess of 300 HP.
If you go to any MP3 forums there are several MP3s that were n/a and now turbo and produce over 200 hp to the wheels, with no ill effects.
This amount of power is with only 7 psi.
There was a good article in a magazine about the P5s racing in SCCA and how excellant the engine was for producing power. The fact that the factory builds the engines with such close internal specs and excellant balance makes for a real performer

ehh the MP3 if im correct is the lil "sedan" protege 5 that has an mp3 system right?
i still think that if Mazda took the Protege 5 and made it an actual hatchback and stuck a turbo on there it would sell...even without a turbo if they stuck some kind of powerful Mazda engine, nice lil system package, and a lil sunroof option then it would sell nicely and could probably go for 17k and under.

What is being failed to be noticed is. People have been putting turbos on the N/A engines for about 1 year now and they are making almost 315 hp and 329 LBs to the wheels.
Operates at 8 psi

I think dodge will make the SRT4 handle fairly well too, remember the ACR neon?

the specifications for this kit match exactly what you typed. It also clearly says on this page that setup will produce 175-185 whp on a miata 1.8, no doubt 8psi will not make a MP3 motor go to 300+ hp.

The Mazda Speed MP3 is far from the factory piece as some have mentioned.
Unfortunatley because of its low production #'s it will not get a fair shake with the masses but pound for pound it kills everything in its class.
And I see a lot of you going out on a limb with the new SRT-4. Yes it is a somewhat proven platform but not in the new configuration that is coming out. Luckily for you Moparts people the Germans have their hand in the pot so the execution of the project will be far better than Moparts could have done on their own.
One car you guys have left out of this discussion is the next Gen SVT Focus that has been under a very tight seal and is supposed to have a lot of Euro in it. Ford wants a big piece of the pie and they have the right people in place to get their slice.
Time will tell.

I can tell you no questions asked that the pazdaspeed protege MP3 will be the standard that all others are judged by, only problem will be as was previously mentioned, the limited production #'s
