Default Motor turns on then turns off

The motor turns on then boggs down and shuts off. Then not a second later i turn the motor back over and it starts up and it runs fine. Any ideas why it wont start up on the first time anymore it used to never do it. Thanks im trying to learn. Also I did a search and nothing turned up. PS its a 1989 honda hb dx thanks again

There is no error codes. Would the fuel pump have a sensor on it to show if it was going bad? Where would I find the relay at? I need a to a Haynes manual for the car. will pick it up in the morning.

I would start with simple things. Like your plugs & distributor cap. R U putting out white or black smoke with the first cold start ?

or when you start up the car, just turn the key to turn on all the accesories but not enough to start it, say wait about 8 seconds then turn it the rest of the way to start it up.

if ya get what im saying....

???cause dont the fuel pumps turn on right before the startup????

once again overdoing it! Main relay would just not work if the pump cycled its working fine. once you have fuel pressure the pump basicly shuts off and the ventury vacum affect keeps the fuel flowing until more Throttle is applied and ups the voltage on the Pump circut increasing the psi on te pump and so forth. Pump cycle = circuit fine !

Tune up ! Check your fuel pressure ! Problem solved. ECM doesnt control Fuel pump priming, The first 8seconds of the FIRST ignition cycle the fuel system primes itself. The ECM hasnt even cycled by then. Check for fuel pressure and posibly run some cleaner in the tank if that doesnt clear it up then replace the pump being that old it coud be a good idea. But do a tune up, that always is a good idea. Cap Rotor Plugs Wires. But im guessing dirty fuel system or dieing pump.

oh FYI engine codes are not stored in pre OBD systems hmm nice try genious !! check the year again !
