b16a2 > ZC
end of story. you can make any motor go as fast as any other motor if it is "built right"

you can't make a ZC vtec. its the only d series engine with 2 cams...all d series vtec motors have 1 cam.

do yourself a favor geoff, get on honda-tech and do some searching. there's is tons of info on just about any noob question you can come up with.

by the way there are zc's that are sohc 88-91 civix/crx si d16a6 is zc...so there for you can make it v-tec with a mini-me head swap, theres different set-up for the zc's which when done right in a light chasis,(crx,88-91 civic) can beat up on some b16's(mostly bolt-ons of course) , plus the chances of you getting a heathly b16 is slim these days which leads to alot of slow and ragged out ones around here and everywhere, a b16 is a b16 at the end of the day and in my opinion has more ptoenial at the end as so does the d16's or any (zc) for that matter but there both great motors...atleast when there done the correct way..

i've beat plenty of b16's with mine and it's a dc (d16a1) , and a zc makes a lil more power than a dc. both b16's and zc's can be built to run very good, but i like the zc or dc cause it handles very high rpm's alot better than b16's and can easily be made to beat up on anything out there! i've seen sooo many b series that have bottom end problems shortly after they're used a lil bit! just ask jamie , dusty , jake, jason, mike s., shawn, actually just about anyone who's ran em!

The b16 was made to rev, from here to the moon, its a high reving engine, thats how most of honda engines make thier power reving high, thats probaly what the engineers at honda back in '88 were thinking while designing the b16..a r/s of 1.74 is amazing ..some say 1.75 is perfect, in my opinion it depends on whats your application.but the zc or any other d,h,f,b is not better a handling rev's ..with the expection of few like the f20c,b18c1,5 ...dont get me wrong they can hang just not with the b16 when it come to reving...thats what it was made for...1.74 r/s 100hp per litler, 1.6=160(with the help of vtec IMO) and the 8,200 redline from factory, the torque is not there with 111 lb ft..but the revs make up,imagine with a 4.785 FD in a light chasis and damn I went to far....
