Default Unusual oil burning

94 gsr motor eagle rods, srp forged 11.5:1 cr, skunk2 Im, minor head porting

I recently rebuilt my motor for the second time. The first time I went with crome rings for the srp forged pistons. All of the bearing were changed and plastigaged. I went through and made sure everything was exact taking as much care as possible. The car burned oil and went through two quarts a week. I figured the chrome rings didnt seat beacuse I have heard many problems with the chrome rings. So went backk in with stock honda rings new valve guide seals and all new bearing again. I also used a 250 grit hone and properly honed every cylinder. I also used and stock head gasket and measured the head for any warping and plastigaged everything again. Now it continues to go through severall quarts of oil a week. The car appears to run fine but a thick dark grey fog comes out of the exhaust. It leaves a thick cloud at higher rpm. The exhaust seems to be lined with oil. I tried changing the pcv. I then tried diconnecting it. This still doesnt seem to change anything. I was wondering if anyone has any idea?

no I did not fil the rings: ring gap is at .015, the piston to wall clearance is at .003, and I used valvoline 10w-30

u may have wanted the ring gap slightly larger but youll probably be ok. piston to wall sounds a little on the loose side for srp's but again you should be ok. are u sure the ring positioning was done correctly, and that none of the gaps are at thrust points or even with the end of the wrist pin? are the oil rings/spacer positioning correct? youre cylinders could possibly be out of round also which will not let the rings seat themselves correctly. hope that helps or give u some ideas

Thank you for the help I will have to consider all of these things. i do know for a fact the ring pos. was right. I might try going with total seal rings. I' gonna end up going through it again and see what i can find.

i doubt the type of rings your using is the problem as long as u use the rings specified for the pistons. i personally wouldnt try mix-matching rings because the ring depth and height could be slightly different between oem and aftermarket...

stock injectors? I've heard of rings not seating on engines running really rich or really lean during the break-in period. but it sounds more like the ring gaps wern't spaced properly.

more common then not, rings are usually too close and need to be filled causing an over tight situation, because you can always take away but never add back on, ya know.

was there a specific ring gap on the rings with the srp's??

piston to wall@.003 is within spec, and sounds okay for an allmotor car, i woulda made them about as tight as i could without compromising the motor itself. but thats just me.

hey loose is fast! atleats in go-kart motors it is!!!! but they usually didnt last very long either.
