Default Vtec Killer Kit! Vtec head, running no Vtec!!?!?!

Vtec, for those who pray to this as your god, make sure you know, all vtec does is switch from a gas friendly cam to a performance cam, hence, "Vtec pop's", means the Performance cam, moved into place, making the car run like if it had a aftermarket cam.

A very usefull feature for a DD. But take any car and cam it, then tune and you got better then vtec.

But theres not denying, Honda has some of the best 4 bangers around, K-series and the F-series from the S2000, NA 4cyl, over 200hp, not bad in my book.

Now Onto the point of this topic.

Has anyone heard about this set up, Its bascaly a pretty exenspive kit, that does the following:

(Please correct me if im wrong, some of this info is going based off my own knowledge)

1. Go with the best honda set up, maybe a B20 block, sleeved and bored.
2. The best Vtec head that fits on the B20 block
3. Buy this "vtec killer kit"
4. Kit comes with a vtec disable set up, and a new cam set, I think

The whole point of this kit is to use the bigger better breathing vtec head, but run a pair of perfomance cams that does not switch into vtec.

So if im correct what you would be doing pretty much is! running a built LS with a bad ass cam, but useing the better flowing and better breathing Vtec head, but no switching cam, you are basicaly running a performance cam through out all the RPMS instead of just engaging it at 6k, or vice versa..

Am i correct? Im not to sure.

sounds like you have the concept correct.even in my 66 pontiac you gave up a smooth idle and maybe a little torque down low...after 3000 rpm look out.but with 400 cubic inches i could afford to loose a little torque at low rpm.not sure id want to in my honda though

The whole idea is just to run more aggressive cams with out the lobe for vtec.

Also honda tech is thata way ->

I think some of our tech guys in here can give more guidance.

B20 and a GSR head or an LS block with a GSR head are the builds that I have heard of. A B16 head can be used as well but a GSR is preferred with those that I have spoken to.

As far as the cam replacement is concerned how do they accomodate for the vtec clynoid if a non vtec cam is used?

I see people out there spending money on the car to improve it … If you spend half that effort just working on your driving skills, making you and the car work together as a team, then you’ll go faster – period. To make the car go a second faster on the track takes a lot more energy and money than making yourself drive it one second faster.

The cam doesn't take VTEC away... It basically just makes it stay in VTEC the whole time.

wrong.....the point of vtec is BROAD power. remember honda motors were not designed for drag racing, they were circtuit motors that needed broad power bands and longevity. hence vtec. the larger cam lobe will not make the low end power of the smaller one in situations where low revs on the track are necessary. the corssover is hondas way of gaining an advantage on long straighs and stuff like that where other cars might begin to pull away without the use of the bigger cam lobe.

the small cam may be a good dd cam for sure, but i dont think honda meant it that way. the vtec killer kits are mainly a drag race thing. anyone who were to run this o the road course would end up with slower times around the track.
