Do you think its worth doing this set up if I have the parts lying around.
96 SOHC VTEC Complete Head with 95 SOHC Non-VTEC Block
What extras are involved in doing this setup.

 

if you have the parts laying around go for it just use a vtec ecu.

either that or use the stock ecu and an msd rpm activated switch if you are short on cash....

 

yeah its a great swap and easy to some new things you will need is a 92-96ex-si head gasket new head studs ecu and wire it up for vtec or msd rpm switch wich does not require a vtec ecu(p2 also you will gwt a higher compression with the head swap your compression should go up to the likes of 11.1 because of the smaller combustion chamber.

 

the compression will go up but not as much as what hybrideg said it will be around 10.3:1-10.5:1 depending on the head gasket you use. If you use a 92-5 headgasket it would be around 10.3 if you use the 96-00 ex headgasket you would get around 10.5:1. The 92-5 headgasket is .048 inches while the 96-00 ex headgasket is .028 inches.

no a y8 head on a 1.5 block will not give that high of a compression. The numbers I gave were for the y8 head. A z6 head will be .2 less than the y8.

Is there any additional work that I have to do to the head or block. Is it true you have to use a VTEC Oil pump.

 

no it is not true that you have to use a vtec oil pump or vtec water pump just use whats in your block it is plenty capable of handling its duty.
