Default b16a2 Throwout bearing or diff?

I've had a bit of a whining in my tranny only under a load for some time now. Just recently started getting worse. More "crunchiness" (for lack of a better word) in the already present whining.

The other day, on my way home. I started to smell something like a brake smell or (hopefully not) clutch smell. Im not sure if it was actually me or not, brakes were working fine and clutch still grabs as good as it did on day 1. I was on the interstate with a lot of other people around me. It only concerned me because it wouldn't go away.

Then started to hear a pop noise from the transmission. I could feel it a little bit in the shifter. It was constant only when the gas was applied. Put it in neutral and rev and coast, nothing. Any one have any insight on what the problem may be?

if it was the throw-out bearing you'd hear a rattling noise everytime you let off the clutch, & when its pressed it'll go away. So throw-out bearing? I'd say no!

Yeah, I figured. It wound up being the ring gear and the counter shaft gear. Both were missing teeth. Ugh! Replacing with LS parts and I bought carbon synchros and new, updated bearings and seals from Synchrotec. Hopefully will have it back together by the end of this weekend. Hopefully!

I know the problem has been figured out but this statement is incorrect ... that would indicate a bad input shaft bearing.
